Good Morning,
I agree with much of what has been said here.

Read, network, learn, seek... it all boils down to experience. The more you allow yourself to absorb the more you will begin to find the things of which you identify.

In addition, it is not necessarily what you know or how many books you have read, but how you portray yourself and what you do with the knowledge you gain. These are what define us. I have always debated with the whole "Title" issue I see brought up in the community. May of us do not like the ideal of being "called" or associated to one particular path, ideal, belief, etc.

However, I find it often that these "titles" are necessary as we are all trying to locate an identity. It shows in our need for finding spiritual/Magickal names, and placing titles about who we are on our pages, placing titles in our e-mail addresses, at the end of e-mail messages, etc. We are trying to tell others about us…

Wicca is a great example because it is eclectic and it can incorporate many ideals from all over. It is all about finding a place to belong. There is nothing wrong with this. It is only wrong if we limit ourselves by creating a name or title for ourselves.

The library is a great resource for finding the books you need in addition to the internet. There is also Free Cycle, I understand that this is another great resource. You don’t need money, you need determination.

Define yourself as you see fit. You can be everything and nothing all at the same time. You have to choose. Live your dreams and never give up. Do what that inner voice inside of you is urging you to do.

Bright Blessings

To quote Joseph Campbell - "Follow your bliss!"

In the meantime, listen to some various podcasts - explore the web and look at various mythologies, and if something calls to you, see where it leads.
And keep your common sense close to your heart where you can hear it loud and clear. ;)
And DON'T consider yourself LOST! Think of yourself as a kid in a candy shop! So much to choose from and it's ALL good! Take your time and feel your way. Listen to your "inner" voices and don't be in a hurry to pigeon-hole yourself. There are no rules, only guide-lines. Enjoy your first steps on the Path...it only gets better from there!

Greetings,

Let me begin with a hug and welcome. I realize coming to this journey in life, path is a huge decissions and since your here I am asuming you've given this a great deal of thought. When I teach new students on this journey I ask a few questions so they know if this is where they really want to be.
1. What drew you to this journey of spirituality?
2. What do you hope to attain at the end of this journey?
3. Do you plan on making this a way of life for the rest of your life?

Now with some questions and soul searching lets move on.
Where to begin? Well, begin at the beginning. Where in time do you best fit? What specific cultures call to you and intrest you the most? Egypt, Greek, Myian, Indian, etc. Once you have decided where in time you most likely just came from this is a good starting point for you. Study the culture and see what they do for there religious holidays and festivals. You might find you like this part of it but don't always agree with some other parts. That's ok, then move on to what else calls to you, culture or events in time, nature.

Books: My pet peve. For those new to this journey I can say if at all possible find an experienced good teacher and learn from them. Books are a resource and often times it's the authors opinions that are stated in there books but not always. There are some wonderful books out on the market today but there are also a lot of " junk" books to that will mislead you rather then aid you in credable knowledge. here are some books I recommend and believe me, I don't recommend many: Drawing Down the Moon by Margot Adler, Cassell Dictionary Of Witchcraft( excellent), The Hex in Hammer or the Malleus Maleficarum, Power of the Witch by Laurie Cabot.
These will get you started. I feel it's so important to know where you came from to know where your going.
I send out my words on the wings of the internet and may they manifest for you with empowerment of your self.
my opening web site is www.earthsblessings.com. My site is very imformative and will guide you.

Blessed are we for we are the children of time,

I would suggest that you write down what:

-influences you
-how you work
-what you class as important
-what you believe you should not do
-gods and godess
-cultures or time era
As one who began this search a few years ago, (We won't talk about how many years) I have found that my beleifs tend to refine themselves every few years, thank goodness. I find that I enjoy the travel along this path more by the constant suprise.

Read, ask questions, search the internet, network as you are here and you will find your answer, or it will find you. Never give up the wonder that each twist to the path takes you.

You are not alone. I do not have a path yet either. I am still learning, and I am open to new ideas.
There is a difference between a religion and one own path. But in either case it starts with research. Find the one that speaks to you. A religion is the relationship between you and humanity. A personal path is a relationship between you and the higher power.

There of those Traditional Religions like the Asatru, Celt Recon, Druids and so on.
Then you have the Eclectic faiths.

Neither are right or wrong it going to take you heart to find it.
Ah, the path one chooses to take in this lifetime...can be an interesting journey to say the very least. I for one, have studied and followed several paths over my 38 years on this planet, learning a little something from each one. I don't think that any one person ever truly discovers the whole truth, but I do believe that each individual finds the truth that works for them, which gives them the personal relationship with the devine in what ever fashion or archetype it is deemed to be. I have a catch phrase that I use with my signature, which sums up my path..."The journey continues..."

-David Darkfire-
The journey continues...
The path that beings will take as individuals differs based on thier own desires, their own wishes and so on... We as humans seek fulfillment in some way... The nirvanic nature is conceived to the enlightened soul as one who is possessed of all knowledge, no self problems, and infinite love. High spiritual endeavor in any particular path leads to the same high end experience of what the hindus call ," immeasurable bliss", or "samadhi", and what buddhist monks label as, " nirvana". My brothers and sisters, the universal enlightened soul is what christians would call," the way, the truth, the life..." and what buddhist masters label," the shelter, the refuge, the goal..." Once a being is enlightened, his eyes are opened, and any mere "path" becomes obsolete before the light of the everlasting day...

"What you focus on, you become.
So always focus on that which is the highest, brightest,
happiest and most Noble of all Things -
Enlightenment."
