Ok guys, last time i looked, eating meat is NOT considered a sin!! I had someone tell me,we ALL need to become vegetarians! Ok,if that is your choice, good for you! I happen to love my steaks! I grew up in the dakotas, where we hunt, you know? My ancestors are meat, too! Anyone else's thoughts?

As a Pagan concerned about my carbon footprint, I'm seriously thinking of becoming a vegetarian again. Do you know how much water it takes to grow enough fodder for one cow per year? Can you guess how many kilograms (or pounds) of grain that a grain-fed cow consumes in one year? Or how much methane one cow produces in a year? What is the lifespan of a cow when it's slaughtered? I'm guessing about 2 years (?) so I'd double those results. When you've worked out the figures, calculate the total number of cows that exist in the world (!) for the benefit of human consumption and to produce milk, and multiply the above answers by this number.
Then think on this.... at the end of its life, how many pounds of flesh would one cow provide? Yeah, it might taste nice, but is it really worth the toll on the environment?

But on a lighter note... LOL...I found a T-shirt at Amazon.com that says this :
“Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.Proverbs (ch. XXIII, v. 20-21)”

Do you know the answers to the questions you asked? If you truelly dont I can post them, for I have them in my books here.

My question to you then is why are you thinking and not acting?
What is there left to think about if you know the facts, and are worried/wondering about your "footprint?"

I am a veggie! I did it first for health reason, as I have kidney disease, the more protein you eat the harder your kidneys have to work. Don't know where I would be if I didn't make the change over ten years ago. I also love animals and am glad I don't eat them anymore, of course that is my humble opinion. I have no issues if anyone else eats whatever they want to, I am not a veggie to make meat eaters feel bad, or to try to convert them. I can't control the world, only my small part in it.

Thanks and BB :)

Seems to me, as has been mentioned here before, that the well balanced aproach is likely the best for most people. Again, though, to each their own.

Hmm..I became vegetarian (as distinguished from Vegan) because, as a Biology student/Nursing student, I could not help but note how very much like animals we are, and if I would never eat a person, I cannot eat an animal. In fact, I find it much more delightful to see happy animals alive and well, and wiggling their ears and tails and whiskers. I have nothing against cheese and honey, and eggs are gray, as I am allergic, but I think that so many hens laying so many eggs do not stop chickens from existence.
I also practice green living and Conservation efforts. I cannot say I am perfect in these areas, only that I effect to make lifestyle changes for the Planet, as possible at my economic level.
I don't judge anyone harshly for not doing these things, and I do not feel that vegetarianism/veganism is for everyone. To each his own, and know yourself.

Hi Glitta!

you made me think!

In The Spring time in Ireland......all the fields are filled with lambs!...that the people Love to admire..how cute and cuddly they are...etc.

But They Never Seem to be able to realise that They are Gazing Upon a slaughter in the making..
and No-one Seems to Notice some weeks later when there are no more lambs in the field....
But Plenty Of People Cooking Legs of Lamb....as Sunday Roast....

Its Interesting the way that human conditioning works...

Please dont take this post as being anti-meat.....My Point is Only to Illustrate how Blinded by themselves...most people sadly are!

recently had this conversation with someone as well and his theory was if we dont wish to do harm then we dont eat meat i said a carrot is a living thing as well ............ admittedly i rarely eat meat and love vegetarian food and if eatin the occasional piece of chicken is a sin well then i am goin straight to hell no stops along the way. as long as u are happy with your decision to eat or not eat meat then great we shouldnt be imposin our thoughts onto another or them onto us

Know what? I could go hunt my food if I had to. Kill it and gut it. Cook it up in a pan.I eat meat. The older I get, however, I find I have more meatless days in my diet...I just feel better. I listen to my body and go with it. I'm with you, Celticllass!

Where do you get these statistics? We stayed with Nancy,David sister who is a PURE vegetarian too and she used way more water for drinking, cooking, bathing(# times a day)and watering her garden.
