PaganSpace.net The Social Network for the Occult Community

Greetings and Love to everyone that has view and or responded to this topic. It took me a while to touch on this topic for the mere reason of sharing my own personal truth and personal reality.

The question is, "Who is Satan to You?"

I come from the school of thought that due to man having a bi-cameral mind (meaning two sided), there constantly exists the duality of nature. However, just like an atom, you have protons (positively charge particles) and electrons (negatively charged particles)

For instance, you have front and back, light and dark, good and evil. One can not exist without the other.

I call this as many others do as well, Light and Dark Integration.
The Universal Polarity Game
Through out our life cycles we have the protagonist and antagonist just like a novel, story or movie. In this case, Satan being the antagonist, playing his role so that you can learn the life lessons/experiences that you came here in each life time (reincarnation). until you get it right.

If God created all things, did He too, not create Satan? The question should be, "What is Satan's Purpose?" What is Satan's purpose in being the 'Liar, Tempter and Deceiver" throughout history.

Here is another concept: Light came out of Darkness/Empty Void.

Without Satan there would be no reason to strive for Good. Only good would exist and the world that you know now would not exist. I believe that is why we are all here to go through the duality of mind body and spirit through experiencing light and dark, good and evil to fulfill our Universal Polarity.

This is how we make the conscious choice in which God gave us the "Free Will / Freedom of Choice to choose.

I also can appreciate the concept of SATAN = EGO. For some people that is how they understand the ID, the EGO and SUPER EGO or Super Consciousness, All of which can be explained scientifically....by the simplest particles in this Universe. proton, electron and neutron .

God = Proton
Satan = Electron
Integration of Good and Evil (Balance)= Neutron

Balancing of the Positive and Negative and Out growing of the problems or pit falls that are placed before you and embracing your fears. Removing the anger, guilt and fear implants that are tools or devices used by Satan to helps/hinders ones spiritual growth.

This is why we are here people on this Earth to Learn.
How can the Universe/God teach you life's lessons without Satan?
Interesting Topic...one well deserved for discussion!

No different than that of Star Wars and understanding the duality of the "Force!"

Satan to me is a mere figment of ones imagination. He is the excuse that so many use that made them do bad things. Everyone is in control of there actions, he is just a scapegoat for the weak, who cant face up to there own bad choices.

Kreoy12luv to me Christians took the horned God from Paganism and turned him into a God of fear to control there flock, it is a made up illusion, there is no such thing as Satin of the Devil or hell.
That's my take on it.

To me satan is a christian concept. A scapegoat for their "sins". If I had to define (satan) within my beliefs I would have to say it is the negative force that balances the positive. No science here just the natural balance of life....Love/hate man/woman life/death light/dark etc.

I grew up Lutheran, but only because my mother expected me to be. As for Satan, I believe that it's a concept created as a means of personifying evil for the purpose of controlling the masses. Satan is purely symbolic...a tool to help explain why bad things happen. The idea of hell as a fiery pit of torture was invented in early Medieval times: to the elites, hell was an eternity of the anguish of God's absence. This idea was too abstract for the peasantry, thus the invention of a place of eternal pain and fire...that, the illiterate masses could understand. If God was lord over heaven, then Satan became lord over hell.
Another facet of Medieval Christianity was the conversion of pagans. The easiest way to convert others is to use what they already know and assign new meaning to it. The pagan and Eastern gods had to become "evil," and therefore unacceptable. The images of the horned gods became Satan and its demons.

I don't think that Satan has anything to do with learning life's lessons. Bad things happen, but the Devil doesn't do it. What we do with life's twists and turns is up to us. I've had a rough past, but my moral compass is strong...I choose to use the lessons that I've learned to help ease others' paths in life. Light and Dark coexist...you can't fully appreciate the good without having seen the bad. Perhaps we, as humans, need to assign a name to what we don't fully understand in order to make it easier to comprehend. It's easier to think of the world as a dichotomy of good and evil, rather than in shades of gray.

So what is sin anyway? It's defined by our culture. What we consider to be a sin may not even raise eyebrows in another time or place.Yes, there are atrocities that are unacceptable in every culture, but the idea of Satan only exists where we invent it.

very good, I take it you have studied philosophy.

It would be all well and good, if the biblical image of 'Satan' is the reality of what Satan has always been. I believe people are holding to the biblical definitions of Satan as the epitome of temptation to evil deeds. What of the true nature of Satan?

Reply to This

yes I agree with that, I think many people only know of Satan as the biblical definition. I think for people to be willing to understand Satan as anything else requires an openess of mind that people arent always in possesion of.

We as humans are so used to seeing everything black and white, good and evil that it is seems almost impossible to escape that thought pattern. Maybe its because if we want to see ourselves as good we have to see something else as bad?

Maybe its because if we want to see ourselves as good we have to see something else as bad? Most def part of human psychology and understanding the natural world. This is why I reject duality, its a logical fallacy. Even after people identify where their beliefs come from, they are still conditioned to think in black and white.

I am with the concensus on this, to me Satan is a face for people to put on the term evil. I don't believe in him, is there evil out there? Absolutely! I just don't believe that it is a single entity pulling all the strings. I think that evil is simply a culmination of all the atrocities commited over the spanse of time crammed into an idea. A huge idea that people can base an entire religion on, and the other side of the aisle can suppport their religion by nurturing that fear.

Yes the idea of satan has been around from time beginning, but the christian idea of it is what we live with now. It is an idea that has repercussions that have destroyed lives.
If you what to delve into an idea of the negative of God then I will.

To me Satan is an ideological concept, originally the word Satan comes from the Hebrew Shaitan, Shtn, and was a spirit of punishment and challenge in YHVH employ, later due more to Zoroastrian thought he became a force of evil.. I personally do not believe the being exists, then again I am an atheist. As for good without evil. how do you define those terms, an earthquake is a terrible tragic event, but it is not evil, evil I hold has to be a conscious act, earthquakes, floods, etc. are forces of nature therefore neither good nor evil. Whereas the desire to create harm and destruction for one's own personal gain would be.
