I know this may seem like a girly topic but it's really not :-) Next year I turn 40 and I've concerned myself more heavily with my skin over the past 10 years. Although, I still need to seriously work on my eating habits.. Why can't cheeseburgers be healthy? lol

Personally, I think you're as young as you feel; most of the time I feel like a 16 year old (some may say more like a 6 yr. old...lol) but sometimes my body doesn't agree.. (BTW I hate those days...lol). Doing a back bend for instance, my mind says "let's do it" then "we do it" and then sometimes my body says "What the hell are you doing...lol" But who cares I do it anyway; my body will just have to fall into check w/ the rest of me; until I break something...lol

Seriously, for me I have found my outlook on life helps a great deal with my health, mind and hopefully my outward appearance. I smile all the time (unless I'm provoked otherwise...which isn't often....), I tend to let stress roll off of me; I don't ignore situations but if it's not worth the headache, then it doesn't get enough of my attention to ruin a perfectly good day...lol I came to the conclusion a long time ago (which is why I'm still somewhat sane...lol), that if something happens that I really can't change, there's no need to dwell on "what was", I choose to look ahead at "what can or will be". I find dwelling on negative situations and people to be a complete waste of time and energy; when that time could be spent doing something productive. (Getting off track...sorry but this does help with the mind...lol)

I believe we all have the ability to use our mind and energy to a much greater capacity than we're taught, this focusing of mind, body and energy; I believe can work on every level of our lives and in time, it's second nature to apply it.

I moved to Michigan over 2 years ago; I'm from the hot Southern regions of the US, and everyone thought I would fall ill; especially during the hard Wintry months. 2 Winters down and one coming; I haven't been sick since I moved here (Thank the Gods). Although, I've had times when I began to feel sickness was coming; each time I told myself it's a "no go" "no time for this right now" and believe it or not; it has worked :-) I also applied this focusing a few years ago when I was in a bad 4 wheeler accident; my face & body was in very bad shape. I willed the healing process and within several days it was almost unbelievable how much my face had healed etc. I believe our mind, spirit and body work together when we align them; this has helped me in so many ways from illness to aging and everything in-between. Now if I can just get past that "for the love of the Gods" feeling I get in March & April when it should be Spring Outside but instead it's still dumping snow like it's January; I'll be 100% on task...lol

Now outside of inner work, I also apply some home remedies & over the counter products to slow the aging process; not to mention I have bad habits (smoking is one) and I don't eat right either, so I need all the help I can get...lol

Detoxing the body: Green Tea is wonderful! It does so much for detoxing your body, it helps counter smoking as well and also aides in the aging process. (I drink Green Tea at least 3-4 times a week)

Egg White Facials: I learned about egg white facials from a beautiful elderly Italian woman when I was about 22. She said it was an instant face lift and after receiving a facial from her (might I add she had absolutely beautiful skin) > I have been hooked ever since :-) Just take the egg white, beat it and then apply to your face; leave it on about 10 minutes and then pat with a warm cloth, then splash your face with cool water.

Cocoa Butter & Pure Vitamin E: Good for the skin!

For a while I used Preparation H on my eyes (don't laugh...lol) because it contained fish oil; I heard years back that they ceased using fish oil, so I don't use that anymore :-)

I will admit that I use other over the counter products like mud masks (which in truth, I love) I have paid some hefty bucks for facial products but when it comes to Mud Masks, believe it or not the cheap dollar store brand (Queen Helene I think) works better than any of the pricey ones I've used.

I also use Oil of Olay products at night, they really seem to work well; not too heavy and I also think they're priced reasonable as well.

I also do not wear base/powder make-up unless I'm going somewhere that I feel it's needed (out to dinner, event etc.). I will put on eyeliner & I love Burt's Bees colored lip gloss daily but makeup (base/powder) I rarely wear.... unless I'm going for the full makeup look...lol

I have a ton of beauty products but I rarely use any of them (except listed above)..

Okay I want to hear your wonder anti-aging remedies....and sorry I went on and on.. :-)

I hope everyone is having an amazing weekend!

Hugs,
Starrfire

Well I'm not as young looking as Talon but most people put me at 37/38 and I've just turned 45 so not doing to bad, my diet is rubbish, I love all the things that are bad for me but I do drink at least 4 pints of water a day and I love creams that are Vit E rich and Aloe vera based. If I find myself coming down with something then I will buy a bottle of Aloe vera juice and put a cap full into my water every day.
Its fantastic stuff full of antioxidants and bursting with vits you can tell I'm a fan I think.
Oh and with my job, a good sun block is a must. Have a wonderful weekend

Hi Starrfire,

I use a few things. I am 45 and alot think I am 10 years younger than I am when they see me. I use oil of olay products, a cucumber eye mask that I make my self, I drink my water and I love all kinds of teas. I do exercise at least I try. I understand how your body goes one way and your back wants to go another LOL sometimes I feel 6 lol or 106 !! I love burts bees products as well!! blessing

LOL... Don't you hate it when our mind tells us to do something and our body is like > ARGH...lol Water is so good for everything, admittedly I have to force myself to drink a lot of it but I do...hehe Burts Bees is the best stuff; I bought some of their lip stuff because my lips were chapped from the cold and I've been hooked ever since :-) Hugs, Starrfire

Sunscreen is definitely important; I use some day creams that have it built in which helps.

"I guess our "secrets" aren't secret any more, LOL."

LOL... I think you're right...hehe

I agree with Tamarah about genetics and ethnic background. On both sides of my German family everyone looks so much younger than they are. But I also nowadays think that stress and pollution etc. have much to do with it. I find I aged more (by about twice as fast, I think) in the past 3 years due to hardships, emotional disappointments, financial and work stress than I ever have. My first white hairs grew about 2.5 years ago as well, but both my parents do not have any! Grandmothers did, though.
Other than that, I exercise regularly, and eat extremely healthy being vegetarian. I also always moisturize, due to being white and having very dry skin.

For me, there really is no secret. I eat a balanced diet, get plenty of exercise, meditation to keep stress down, stretch to keep the muscles/back limber, don't drink/smoke/drug, get enough sleep and laugh a lot at myself and the world around me. I've spent MANY years out in the sun which is probably bad but so far the only real signs of aging I exhibit is the graying of my beard when I grow one in the winter. I'll be 31 this month and still get carded when I try to buy a bottle of wine as a gift. I was even carded buying cigs for my mother. (Don't get that one though) I'm healthy as an ox and I never have a cold that lasts more then a day once a year.

Genes, like Selene said, probably play a role as well. I'm not so certain though. My father looks to be as old as Yoda and has since he was my age.

BTW, I think the laughing part has a LOT to do with it!

I think that too... :-) Despite sounding like a dork, I have always believed that inward happiness tends to take on an appearance all of its own... Hugs, Starrfire
