I've been interested in dream divination for some time and now that I've actually got my hands on some Calea, I feel a bit stupid and naive about this. Can anyone give me some advice on how to use it? The leaves are small. What method would be the most effective? Tea, bong, rolled in a cigarette? I'm assuming It's best to try this before bedtime (duh!) Any advice would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Dream Inducing Herb, Calea zacatechichi

This dream inducing herb Calea zacatechichi has been and still is being traditionally used by the Chontal Indians of Mexico to induce dreams. Used as a tea and often smoking cigarettes rolled from the same material, the Chontal Indians use this magical herb to obtain divinatory messages during dreaming.

In controlled experiments Calea zacatechichi has in fact to been found to increase the superficial stages of sleep and the number of spontaneous awakenings. The subjective reports of dreams were significantly higher than both placebo and diazepam, indicating an increase in hypnagogic imagery occurring during superficial sleep stages. A collection of interviews and written reports concerning the psychotropic effects of these preparations on 12 volunteers has been published. Free reports and direct questioning disclosed a discrete enhancement of all sensorial perceptions, an increase in imagery, mind thought discontinuity, void flux of ideas, and difficulties in retrieval. These effects were followed by somnolence and a short sleep during which lively dreams were reported by the majority of the volunteers.

There is also reported a feeling of well-being is said to persist for a day or more with no unpleasant side effects. Leaves show some experimental antiatherogenic and CNS depression activity and the plant contains 0.01% of a crystalline alkaloid, C21H26O8.

Thanks a bunch, Sheila...So I guess tea or a cigarette would be the way to go. Thank you for the response. Any others?

I was busy so I just copied and pasted that for you, but now can write a little also. I think that in some ways it depends on the desired affects you want. I would think that smoking it would be faster results maybe, just like other substances, if you smoke or ingest there are differences in how the affect is brought on. I am not really sure as I have not used it. try it one way one time and another way the next and see which you prefer. If you are a non smoker, maybe smoking isn't for you. Me, I would probably do both at the same time, lol. Have fun, and let us know the results you get when you do try it.

Hah!! Down the road I probably will do both, LOL. Will try the tea first before bedtime. See what effect that has. Will let you know.

I have never heard of this herb. Does it have a second more common name I might have heard of it as? And where did you find it?

I think it's also called the dream herb--cheech--bitter grass, don't remember where I first saw it. I think I bought it off Ebay. But these Trix aren't for kids. 18+ only!!! Ya know?? Here is the "Wiki" link.

I rolled some into a cigarette. i don't know that it made me more lucid about my dreams, but it definitely made me have MORE dreams in one night of a fairly short duration. That said, since I've never been a smoker by nature--I didn't smoke a whole lot of it. Will repeat the experiment on my next day off.

I find it interesting that it doesn't really effect me BUT in dreams. I might be sensitive to it, but I simply bruised a leaf between my fingers then touched the oil to my tongue. HOURS later when I went to sleep my dreams were FAR more vivid than they've been for a VERY long time. GRANTED, I had had a Reiki attunement earlier that day and THAT might have cleared some "dream" channels as well, but if I try this again with the same or even similar results, I'm going to be VERY impressed with this stuff! LOL!
BTW...does this SMELL familiar to you too, or is it just me?
