Does this bother you too?

I have watched in the past few months some really disturbing stories on television. I usually avoid the news but for some reason have been drawn to it.It seems that the new thing is parents torturing and murdering their children.Can this be right? Maybe I am just more aware of it now and beforehand tried to avoid knowing about it. I heard of one that bothered me enough to cry. A five month old in illinois that was left to starve for days and eventually was found dead even though his father was at home the entire time.Does this type of madness bother you like it does me?

Unfortunately, our various media outlets latch on to these stories when they want to jumpstart their viewership. Seriously, journalism isn't what it should be. The news is geared to shock, scare, and shame. The atrocities of war has hit a wall, so...well, we get a close-up of the ugliness right underneath our noses. My second thought is that of natural selection. Every species has a way of purging the gene pool. I know that sounds horrid, but watch any documentary on nature. It is shocking to see a parent neglect or kill their injured, weak, or sick young, but it is what it is.; ▶ Reply to This

I used to be HORRIFIED at such stories and yes, I'd cry and then get angry. These days with the "if it bleeds it leads" in MOST medias I'm bombarded with it almost daily and I've grown numb. I don't LIKE being numb, but I'm sure its a defense mechanism and it must have been flipped into the "ON" position for a reason.
YES, the madness bothers me greatly, but I've learned to shield enough to not feel that stab in the heart everytime I hear of it...and yes, I recently had to give up watching the news and reading the paper...it was a constant barrage of insanity!

The only difference is that humans are in closer contact with each other so that it is harder to hide it. It is also a recognized thing. It used to be that child abuse was not recognized as a problem--it was just something that happened. People would look the other way.

Shrug. It sucks and it hurts and the only thing we can really do is pray that those who commit such atrocities meet with exactly what they deserve.; ▶ Reply to This

It does make me sad to know that there are sweet little children who do not get that love they deserve. To be blunt people who give birth who abuse children , by all rights should be sterilised
or have their Va-jays jays sewed up! This makes me angry and my blood pressure sky rocket. Storys of children being treated so cruelly and dying at the hands of those they have no choice but to trust. I wish, just wish that they would go old school on these scumbags and let the village woman deal with sickos like this!!; ▶ Reply to This

The baby I mentioned in the starting post his father had even spoken earlier that week about wanting to put him up for adoption.Why didn't he then rather then just let him starve?It enrages me more then anything that people have no regard anymore for human life and the lives of their children. It seems many of these cases involve young unresponsible individuals or caregivers and it surely makes me second think bringing another child into this world. I do believe it bother's me more then most people because I lost my child a few years back in April to SIDS. Knowing the beauty of my daughter in the short time I had her leaves me speechless as to how anyone could ever hurt their children.Thank you guys for the replies by the way:); ▶ Reply to This

Permalink Reply by Dragonwraith on April 4, 2008 at 8:14am: the problem is reported more than it was because its socially unacceptable behavior. you might be suprised to know that only in the late 19th century did children actually be given social rights. the Victorians used children in the work houses and that was in the 1800s and early 1900s the problem as I personally see it is not enough accountablity overall in the crinimal system we as a society have allowed lawyers, bleeding heart liberals, and do gooders too much power and an excuse for everything remembering the yates case another thing is somewhere the message got lost that overall we the human speices are violent by nature thats every man woman and child of the speices again the bleeding hearts have done all in their power to convice the mainstream society that this is wrong. As a Pagan the negatives are in place for the postives and this problem while its horrible in my opnion is a "natural" disgusing process of humanity

I have a different point of view on positive negative aspects..
The natural state of balance isn't reflected in human choice. Humans have the capacity to disrupt balance by having free will. Destruction as a natural event is one thing, by the choice of a being with free will is something else.
Only human beings have the capacity to choose between good and evil. As well as define the concepts.
The capacity to be evil is balance. The choice to be so is not.
