I have such an appreciation for random animal photos. THis is hilarious! lol
Now, about the topic... The Philadelphia Zoo is nice and the animals mostly seem to have nice, outdoor setting that are catered to their natural environments, so they seem happy enough. The Central Park zoo in NY is ok I guess, but a little cagey I think.
I dont think Zoos are evil, but sometimes it makes you feel sad. But as someone else said, many animals live and survive thanks to the zoos.
Come to Omaha NE, the Henry Doorly Zoo is here. Some of the exhibits aren't so great, but they're not horrid, but for the most part they're nice. Many seem to be small, but when you get to the other side, it's this big, neat looking area. I'd say the worst part is probably the when you come to the "big cat enclosures" and see the tigers, lions, leopards, and other big cats asleep or bored inside(as apposed to outside, in the sun and grass). However, like I said, it's pretty good.
funny you should ask this... Charles Manson on a "phone interview" on Inside Edition just recently said that the United States should be ashamed of how we treat animals in zoos.... Personally, I think that zoos have come a long way for how they treat animals since zoos began. Many of the zoos are now helping repopulate endangered species and help rehabilitate injured animals and release them back into the wild. So I think that your friend may not have researched zoos in general and what their role is in todays world.
