What has everyone been doing about the gas $$$$$$?? We are driving our pick up less and the focus more and combining trips. Anyone have any other tips? My husband believes we should have a solar powered car!

During the summer I am off from work, so I stay home. If I need to go somewhere nearby I will walk. My husband and I haven't been going out of town as much. And he has been driving his Feiro.

LONG DRIVE ! YIKES! You know,I actually have found some pretty good air fares because they all want our business. we have to fly to MASS for a family tnhing.and i believe it is cheaper than driving for us from virginia.

A solar power car would be great, at least the running out of 'gas' excuse would be believable going out on a date coming back at night...

I have tries my best to consolidate my trips out, try to figure out what I need and plan a more direct course when I do.

Walking if the store is close. If we are going out we do combine trips as much as possible and plan it in a loop. We also having vehicles with fairly decent, not great, but decent gas mileage. 18 or so city, and 22-24 highway/interstate.

Unfortunately, even for a decent sized college city, we have very poor public transport. Very inefficient. Or we'd be taking that. Of course the goal is to eventually live in Toronto. Which one of the many great things about living in a large urban city is wonderful public transportation (to the point of hardly needing a car), and being close enough to walk to things.

Our culture would do better to learn to build up instead of out.

How much is petrol over there? I was always under the impression that fuel was cheap in America, guess I was wrong.
I can't really use my car less because where we live we need to use the car to get everywhere. I have been trying to use it less and I think i'm managing to cut down the amount of useless journeys I make in it. I wouldn't mind a solar powered/environmentally friendly car, but I just hate the look of them. Also i've been told by people that in our area they are no use, it benefits people in the city more than us.

I would love that prices here!! I'm not sure what it is in dollars but we pay £1.20 a litre, which is about £6 a gallon. If my maths is right then I think that's $12 a gallon.

Yes, I find it interesting that it is often new news to people here in the states that gas prices have been quite high in other areas of the world for quite sometime. I just have to look at them cockeyed and sort of giggle at their seemingly personal dismay that it's not a problem unique to the states!

It's hard to understand such unintelligible group-think sometimes!

Hopefully this will all serve as a catalyst for alternative energy and fuel sources.

I walk and take trains and buses. I don't even own my own car. I get a lot of exercise just getting around. I wish more people would walk. I feel less rushed and stressed when I walk. Human beings are meant to walk.

Indeed. Energy efficient mass transit would be a feasible plan.

However, if we just except the status quos of our culture as being simply the culture, everybody is royally screwed.

So I'd like to think eventually people will wake up and smell it.............. and realize change is what it's going to have to be. Change now for a better outcome...........or change with the fecal hits the fan. I think the first option is almost certain to be more pleasant!

We are limiting driving. I work luckily five minutes from my apartment. My younger son can walk to work. My older has to drive farther. On the weekends as I am busy at the UU church I plan any errands around that time so I don't make unnecessary trips. I would love a solar powered car. I would also like it if we had good mass transit. I grew up in Chicago with excellent transit, no one ever needed a car.
