You won't believe this

I have to rant. Just go with me. You may enjoy this.

Classes just started today, and I made it to my Philosophy 1010 (Critical Thinking) class. The professor asks us to introduce ourselves and tell us something interesting. I mentioned my practicing witchcraft (or at least my version of it), and the class goes into hysterics. One snotty bitch tells me to 'take that devils symbol off my neck.' All I can do is assume that she meant my pentangle. I try to defend myself. I was feeling abnormally nice today, so I did my best to describe my faith, if only briefly. No dice. The entire class almost lynches me on the spot. Somehow, I ended up in the one PHILOSOPHY class full of fundies.

The professor tried to calm them down, but asked me, for the sake of the class, to take off my pentangle. For his sake, I did. Now guess what I did next. I showed those assholes who had the bigger pair of balls. They decided to gang up on me, so I went after each one individually.

I went to each of those little pricks, found SOME sort of religious symbol on them and DEMANDED that they remove it. I made them KNOW who the hell they were messing with. Howl Coyote does NOT back down. NEVER! Spent almost half an hour making my 30 some odd classmate my enemies. And you know what? I NEVER FEALT BETTER!!!!

And guess what. I ain't dropping the class. I'm going to make them FEEL my pain for the rest of the semester.

I was "out" in college, but I was in a very supportive environment. Are you in a large university or a small college? What part of the country?

I will give you some advice from an old crone - being "out" has its advantages and disadvantages.
I am sure it has led to at least two lay-offs of a position (meaning I was the one to go) and it has benefited me in many ways.
I have had to go to one HR department to explain about some harassment, but the company that it happened at, had far worse harassment issues, it was a union-busting outsourcing place and it was a relief when I went from there (the money was nice and extra for the time being)

Choose your battles wisely. I was very offended in school last year when we had class on Halloween. When I talked to administration and the teacher I was told I could miss the class, but at my own peril. Huh? Then came the ultimate kick. To take the baby bar in California - the date is - you guessed it October 28. Needless to say I am not going to bother. When I explained I would be glad to take it on Christmas or three days before or after any other holiday, I was met with NO response. For me, that says loads. Fortunately, I was changing my mind as to what I wanted to do with that doctorate anyway - and this incident helped me make my decision.
The Goddess works in mysterious ways - and thumps you on the head with large oak branches.

I did my first undergrad work and graduate work and phenomenal schools - very liberal and creative and it meant a lot for me to be in such conducive learning environments. See if this is just a freak accident, or if you need to transfer out of that class or out of the school.
Life is too short to put up with idiots.

That was awesome! I had a myth/magic/folk religion class where there were a good number of the same type of people. None of them had the balls though to say anytihng in front of the class or directly to me (only behind y back durring class, or through notes, "accidentally" dropped next to me). Even the teacher seemed to be against me. So, I went home that night, and got out my henna kit, and set a really neat pentacle design on my right forearm. I wore my normal pentacle around my neck, and a goddess headband in my hair to class. (Maybe someday I'll get around to uploading the pics of my homemade stuffs).

Anyway, didn't Jesus say "Love one another, just as I have loved you?" He didn't mean only christians. He meant everyone in the whole world.; ▶ Reply to This

The verse "Thou shall not suffer a witch to live" actually was more along the lines of "Thou shall not suffer a chemist to live" in latin. it meant anyone who does or handles drugs.; ▶ Reply to This

Since I was a catholic school girl for most of my life, we had to read passages for class, and unfortuantely in 7th grade, they had me stand up and read to the class. It ended up being that exact passage, with a few lines before and after it. My face was so red by the time I was done. The teacher went into a discussion about the evils of witchcraft from that, and he kept his eyes on me the entire time...talk about intolerance...; ▶ Reply to This
