As far as price, it all depends on where you are and who does it for you.
Does it hurt? It is hard to describe. For me, it wasn't so much the feeling of the needle as it was the noise of the tattoo gun. Also it depends on where you get it. I got mine on my shoulder blade. The center of little "Scorch" that was over the bone was more ouchie than other areas. The most painful for me, was the last three minutes when Hawk was highlighting with the white and shadowing. When it was healing, it reminded me of scrapping your knee on cement.
The most important thing is not to focus on the pain. Take something to squeeze (like a stress ball) and it will help you cope. In my case, Hawk talked to me the entire time to distract me. He did such a good job, all the way around, I am planning to return to him for my second one.
It does hurt, but depending on how you react, I can feel not as bad if you tense up and make it worse. I have 4 and I've had 2 that took over 2 hours each. I found that you can find good artists that do not charge you a ton of money. It depends on what you want. I found someone in a small shop in a small town and only paid $60 for a decent sized tattoo and he was great! And never, ever go to someone that says they can only use their stencils, that they cannot create something for you. I asked someone once if they could do a small rose like I had on part of my tattoo for my friend, and he said he didn't have any stencils he could use and if we had one drawn it would be over $150 - it is literally less than an inch. lol - so follow your gut, be sure where you want to get it and I always recommend the first time to put it somewhere it can be hidden easily - before you go for the more visible tattoos. Good luck!
Hi I have 2 tatoos depending on where you go and how the art work is done, the price will depend on that, color is more expensive, and the PAIN!!! let me tell you from my point of view I did not feel the pain I have 1 in my neck and everyone told me that is so painfull but I must admit the most painfull part was paying for it! I have 1 on my left shoulder and I was still waiting for the man to start when he told me he is done and how to take care of it! so being a "girl" the most painfull part of that was undressing infront of a strange man! So you want a tatoo I say go for it!!! I have ink fever now!!!
It hurts, but its not as bad as you might think, but then again i like the pain so...lol. And the price issue...it depends. My first was a smaller thor's hammer ont he left shoulder...about 6'' by 8'' cost me about 145$. Then found out an old friend had completed his apprenticeship, so since then i have gotten a troll's skull on my right calf that was 60$ and is about 10" by varying, and very detailed. Just got my two ravens complted...two sittings, 7.5 hours roughly...100$. i guess it pays to know people, but i dont think its the norm to get good work done so cheap...so i guess i am not helping.
Remember Hipsage...this is IMPROTANT... with tattoos you get what you pay for!!!! And go to a pro!!! and YES they hurt. But, when I get one I find meditating can really help. :)
I got my first tattoo a week ago....a half sleeve on my left arm.....I can assure u the answer is both is YES!.....although for the size and the time spent...which was two and half hours...the cost was $300...I was expecting it to be abit more...the pain...intense at times, but mostly from my arm being tender and sore after about an hour into it....but...I'd do it again!!!!!
Wow your first tattoo was a half sleeve??? Your brave!!! Would love to see a pic of it. - hahaa nevermind saw it on your site. Beautiful work and that's a great price for what you got done.
2" Bear paw B/W on my chest - it was free and did not hurt at all.
I understand placement has a lot to do with the pain.
Male chest does not have a lot of nerve endings. My wife has double dragons sholuder to shoulder and down her back in B/W. She said the spine hurt the worst. Hers was $350 but could be a lot more, the guy who did it was just getting established.
I understand price has a lot to do with reputation of the the artest and wher you get it done (Not on your body but what city).
I agree that it can be pricey... but you do get what you pay for. If someone is willing to ink this huge ,detailed art on your skin for an unreasonably low price...RUN. Chances are you found a crappy artist and not a great deal.
I have only 4. My first is the smallest one and it hurt the most because I didn't know what to expect. The other 3 ...I guess they hurt but like many here said,it depends on where you get it and you forget about it when it's over.
Personally, I found that I kind of like the pain of it so I got more and plan to get 2 more this summer.
It's different for everybody.
