Hey all! Merry Beltane :) I hope the season is going well for you.

I was curious if anyone had anything to share regarding bells and their properties, and in particular if anyone had any experiences with bells as magical tools that they'd like to share. I am very interested in bells as devices through which energy can be channeled and would like to learn all I can.

Ever since I read Sabriel by Garth Nix, I've been obsessed with bells. Bells are part of my name and my life, I'm pretty sure my ancestors were bell-makers or bell-ringers. The way that they call out to the world, using just a clapper and a bowl, a line and a circle - a phallus and uterus if you want to take it to that level - is so basic and yet so powerful. They can be used to represent water, air, earth and fire, as well as spirit.

I've checked Wikipedia, I've checked around. Any books, any stories, any one?

I have nothing concrete to offer, but I am very drawn to bells and to this line of thinking. It would be wonderful if this discussion were to blossom....

Yeah, I like that idea! Thanks so much :)

Would you say that perhaps it is the clapper that is the male part, the part that hangs within the cup?
