Folklore has long believed the fairies would swap their own offspring for human children, taking beautiful children and leaving sickly ones in their place. Why did they do this and what happened to the babies? Any one think they are still doing this?

Permalink Reply by Celticlass...FAERIE QUEEN on July 6, 2012 at 9:36am Hi Dave P! The Fey are as wide and varied in personalities as we are......from the good, the bad,the helpful, the devious, kind, mean, spiteful, every human personality trait here? Is in the faerie realm also.....plus the power of being spiritual beings. they do as they wish and align and help whom they choose.
Permalink Reply by Celticlass...FAERIE QUEEN on July 6, 2012 at 9:33am In my opinion......they can and do......

Permalink Reply by Celticlass...FAERIE QUEEN on July 6, 2012 at 12:36pm They FEY dont think like humans,Sid,even the human friendly ones.they could "see" into the childs future pherhaps and deem it kinder......for it to pass young
Permalink Reply by Celticlass...FAERIE QUEEN on July 7, 2012 at 9:34am We dont pick the Fey. They pick us. Either to work with, harass, play mischief with, empower us,align with us,work with us,make our life hell, help in times of trouble,be there to aid in spellworkings, protection, ect and hundreds of other ways.the FEY like people are as wide and varied as the almost 43,000 people here ,on Pagan Space. Many "open the door" for the faeries,by reading about them, talking about them, wanting to associate with them,"see" them,or even tales they have heard for years about them. There are places in scotland and ireland in Celtic fey lore that are the "faerie isles" ,magical, mystical places. i know,I've been to several,Islay in Scotland,Aran isle in Ireland. One can never "placate" a fey completely, trying to get along with them, honoring them wih offerings, simple ones at that,too,honey,ale,trinkets......If they decide to interact with you, they will. Those of us that work with them, respect, what they do,their help and get along fine with them. My Mom followed the fey,My Irish Gran and myself.....The Irish Tuatha, before they were fey, were the mighty Irish warriors of olde, physical beings, that some Irish that are called to the Fey believe we have physical roots with them. Can we prove it? No......do we remember yes....Why some of us can Walk between worlds Sid,simply part of my path. they fey are spiritual entities, like all spiritual beings and should be treated as such.
Permalink Reply by Shadow Moon on July 5, 2012 at 10:54pm Perhaps there is a logical explanation? Infant mortality rates were relatively high until vaccinations, improved health care, better nutrition, education and many other factors came to be common place; the development of the middle class essentially. Infants and young children would die young, this is why there were such large families. Some infants may simply died of SIDS or other unknown diseases at the time. The sudden change in the health of an infant can be explained just by a simple contraction of an infection or disease untreatable at the time. It may happen overnight making it seem like the child was switched with an unhealthy alien.
I'm not saying fairies don't do it, but I fail to see the reason, especially when the majority of people do not believe in them anymore. The parents may not even notice or scream changeling, but come to a rational conclusion.

I do believe there are times they do, but also look at some mothers how they take care of themselves to as well as generational things passed down.

Permalink Reply by Celticlass...FAERIE QUEEN on July 6, 2012 at 5:14pm .........I would respectfully disagree Robert G.I have seen the fey do much, much more in the physical World over the years, they have aligned with me.....Powerful spiritual beings dont need the same physical bodies we have....to accomplish many things. I do agree fey do not possess people.....they can however, influence people greatly, like the leansidhe,a Scottish vampyre fey that attaches to artistic younger folk.....
Permalink Reply by Mordechai on July 5, 2012 at 11:22pm Theres a book that deals heavily with this. It's called the "Secret commonwealth of elves fauns and faeries". It's an academic essay in a small book form, delving deeply into the idea of the fae as well as the fae child. What is often left out is that a fae child was not always to be considered an ill child. On occasion it was considered a blessing, as the child would be gifted with otherworldly traits such as in craftsmanship or with the second sight.
I highly recommend the book. Acedemic writing, but highly informative. Also some interesting perception of the second sight itself, as well as the idea of supernal vs infernal beings.
Read it. You won't regret it.
