PaganSpace.net The Social Network for the Occult Community

So, are you part of a clan? A Scottish one or not? Or what about a community or family based system?

Do you know the ancient history of clans and tribes?

This thread is made for discussion and dissenters will not be called "trolls" in it. You can speak your opinions here, good, bad, indifferent. If you can't think of anything to add, add what you know about the clans.

I honestly do not know a lot about the modern or ancient clans and would be curious to learn more and also hear peoples' opinions about both.

I'm descended from The Macmillan clan and The Gunn clan.

Though I swear my allegiance to only one Clan, and it's fairly obvious from all my post who that Clan is.

You I take it?

I'll give you a hint:

This Clan is known for being "nothin' to fuck with".

Wu Tang.

Haha, I knew it ^^

Clan Gunn is alive and well at most festivals we go to. Clan Gunn is a smaller NE Scottish Highland Clan that ,aligned with Sutherlands and ,my Clan Gordon in the NE Highland areas of Scotlands. They are believed to have descended from Jarls of Orkney,in the Hebrides , Some clain the name Gunn comes from Gunni, grandson of Sweyn(spelling?) A viking....Clan Gunn is known as an Armgerous clan with no clan chief,so are under the command of Lord Lyons as recognized Clan Commander....Gunns have had several disputes with the Mackays over land mostly and support of "bonny" Prince Charlie in the Jaccobyte uprisings, which Clan Gunn tried to stay out of. Clan Gunn Association of America is trying to establish a Clan hier in Scotland,as a known relative IS still alive in Inverness, according to Clan Gunns accounts. I met a lady from Clan Gunn at Grandfather Games two years back,73 that hunts in the woods with her rifle(Her husband uses bows) in Tennessee and she is learning the bag pipe.....lol

I find it infinitely hilarious that the crests and tartans aren't very old at all, even by the clan systems standards, but people define their history by them.

Why do you think Romanticism is so popular among modern folk about clans?

It's fashionable.

Not just being in fashion, but a fashionable style.

It's super easy to get a shirt with your clan crest on it, where a scarf or kilt with your clan tartan on it.

Many think that their crests and tartans are old.

It's just like maypoles, potatoes, and runes.

maypoles, potatoes and runes Oh My!
