Whose been to college? Who wants to go? Where did you go/ where do you want to go? What did you take? What would you like to take or have taken in addition?
etc etc - please answer anything else you can think up on the subject (outside of sex and drugs)
thats why I'm thinking of just Auditing classes I like. If I wont be getting a job for any of the work and I'm just interested in learning then there really isnt a point in paying 30 thousand dollars for a piece of paper.
Last year i had a friend who was checking into auditing classes. She checked out a few community colleges in the area and couldn't find one that would allow her to audit for free. She was still going to have to pay for the classes. I guess with the decreasing funds that they're getting they can't afford to offer auditing for free anymore.
auditing is taking the classes for free (I'm pretty sure you still have to pay for books and stuff) and not getting credit for them. If you have to pay to audit the classes then you might as well just take regular classes and get credit
The colleges and universities shall remain nameless to protect the innocent-the way I turned out is not their fault:
BA- English/Political Science
MA Journalism/ media research (I chickened out of the PhD just before having to put a committee together!)
JD
I completely disagree with you Jared, although you did explain why you hold that opinion. Liberal Arts isn't for everyone but it isn't limited to getting a job. A good example is that I could pick out the students in Law School who didn't have the LA background and had a much more difficult time with the historic and philosophical concepts.
I taught Shakespeare as a TA in college and it doesn't have a damned thing to do with what pays the bills. I loved the text and language and would be immensely poorer in spirit if I had skipped it.
telling the facts of life is the 2 or three posts where you were saying something different and continuing on the same strain in an educational manner.
This
"Well, you're lucky -- not everyone has the luxury of doing whatever just because they like it. Some of us can't afford that, some of us have to worry about where the next meal will come from, or if we'll be evicted become homeless. Some of us have to do things we hate, and miss out on things we love, just to stay alive. For people who aren't rich (i.e., middle class or upper class), for whom our work supports our very existence, survival comes first by necessity and the ability to make money can't be so casually ignored. I wish I could afford to just study whatever I pleased and do whatever I please with my life, but reality is otherwise, for me and a lot of other people."
is WHINING
Ahem-I paid for my education. And somehow became employed and paid back my loans. Possibly because I was too busy working to cry about how someone took advantage of me.
Finishing up my Associates degree in Information Technology. Then on to get my Bachelor's in Systems and Network Administration. Can you say GEEK?! lol
Yep, college argh, Sophomore year of being a biology major is going to be a butt kicker. Though now I finally get to take 1 Bio class instead of just mountains of Chemistry, Physics and Math. (Yeah I know a Bio major not taking bio classes?!?! Whats that all about) Oh and taking a dance class "just for fun and a few extra Credits" is not a good idea, it will probably turn out to be your most difficult and stressful class of the bunch. College is fun though, even when it's hard or you're spending 20 hours a day studying.
