Considering writing a pagan childrens book.

So, I've been thinking about it for a long time, and I am considering writing a childrens story book with a pagan theme, it would be full of, bedtime stories, moralistic stories, and the like.

So, I'm coming to the best darn pagan site I know of, to do a little market research.
Im looking to see how much interest there would be in such a book, what kind of stories you would want in it, what kind of morals you would want it to impart on your children, etc.

Also, if anyone out there has a talent for writing, and would like to help, we could make it a compilation instead. As it will take me quite a while to come up with enough stories to fill a book.

I will most likely be self publishing the book, and am going to be donating a portion of the proceeds to a children's charity, haven't decided which one yet, but there is plenty of time for that before I get it written.

Perhaps I'm a little weird here, but from my observations of my kids, I don't think that acceptance is something they grasp. My older one seems to just accept EVERYTHING, I'm not sure he'd understand the idea that some people aren't accepted, and I'd rather wait and explain that reality when he finally does see it, instead of introduce it prematurely. But, my observations may not be everyones.
I'd be very interested, my oldest son loves stories with a pagan flair. Particularly he really gets into the stories I make up about the Sun and the Moon. Currently he's really into following moon phases (he's three) but he loves the family holidays celebrating the times when the Sun starts to win the fight for the sky and when they Moon starts to get the best of the Sun. Just throwing that out there in case it's an inspiration.
i think that is a really great idea, as long as you can keep it fun and innocent enough for children. that way more parents (not just pagens) might be okay with their kids reading it
Thanks for all the input.

A few responses:
By the Beat of my own Drum, Myths and legends told to where a young kid can understand them will most likely be a big part of what I write. And don't worry on the pentacle thing, the pentacle is a great symbol, and hey, I even own one, but if it appears at all, it will be rarely. And while I suck at drawing, I have a friend who is a great artist, whom I will most likely be getting to do some if not all of the illustrations. This is a low budget project, as, well, frankly, Im pretty broke, or else I'd hire out the illustrations.

thymekeeper, toadpipe is right, As this is going to be a book for younger kids, most likely ages 3 to 9, I don't want to introduce, even remotely, that some people are judged by their religion. Kids already have a place that they learn that people judge them on arbitrary ideals, thats called school.

Toadpipe, thats a wonderful idea. Thank you.

Heather, I don't plan on it being an in your face religious type book. While the stories will have pagan ideals, I want it to be a book pagan parents would love to read to their kids. But mostly, it will be full of stories that open a kids mind to new ideas, and stimulate their imaginations.

Thats it for now, I am off to bed shortly. I look foreward to reading what anyone else has to contribute when I wake up.
Thanks again.
Sorry, didn't mean to sound like I was dismissing your suggestion out of hand.
I will give it more thought when I am less sleep deprived and not quite so irritated at my cat for keeping me awake.
I'll think about this more later, and see what type of stories I would like to read to my kids. This is a great idea. I would love to have more options. Right now my son is working on a series of books where Merlin sends two kids on journeys through time to finish certain quests. It's the magic tree house series. That's the closest I've found to a pagan themed childrens book.
Yeah, Ive been doing a lot of reading on ancient myths, legends, and faiy tales, lately. Trying to figure out how to rewrite them to where a kid today would like, and understand them, without loosing any of their spirit.

And I know what you mean about how Disney mangles them. I understand their movies are for children, and they cant have things like rape in them, but wow, what drugs they must have been doing to remake those fairy tales.
Have no fear on the timeframe thing, If I get it done and ready to print in the next 6 months, I will be pleasantly surprised.
Thanks for the support.
I was originally going to write a more serious book, but it seemed like each topic I was interested in, had be done to death. So I started thinking about what would be fun to do, and not already have a thousand different books written about/for it.

Yeah, we tend to be a literary group dont we?
I could think of worse things that could happen.
It could turn into a way of helping support this wonderful site.
I wouldn't mind selling, well atlest advertising, any books I write though PaganSpace, and splitting part of the profit on any sales from this site with them.
I'm very interested in this concept! I don't have kids yet but over the years I've noticed a huge void in materials for pagan children.

Stories surrounding pagan holidays would be amazing. Heck, I'd like stories and myths about the holidays for myself. lol =P

If you want someone to help write or edit I'm more than willing to lend a hand. =D

Thanks for the offer. I will keep it in mind.

Right now, I am still doing research for it, collecting myths and legends and fairy tales,
I am going to start doing some preliminary writing soon, rough drafts of stories of my own, first drafts modernizing folk lore, and whatnot.
