deity as thoughtform or is there a god(dess) of the internet

I just finished reading Neil Gaiman's American Gods (in which he posits deities are cultural thoughtforms)and am wondering if that means there's a god of the interwebs, a goddess of coffee, etc. Do you see deity as thoughtforms or something more real? I'm still pondering the concept myself- pondered all over my fledgling blog [email protected] (ah yes shameless plug!)-and am looking for any opinions or musings on the subject.

i do see your point(ah yes jungian archetypes) but not all deities are based on ethereal concepts. Nature is very real and plenty of people veiw Her or Him as a deity..(sorry for the late reply the PC was down most of the weekend) which is not something I personally consider ethereal. Or hero deities based off of possibly real people like Asclepius. In your practice do you see these as Archetypes?
I guess what I'm really trying to figure out is if deity is created by individual or cultural concepts. I think Archetypes definitely of the cultural type (right?). Jung sees them as universal concepts...
I see a little of both... Reality is a perception of Symbols and Patterns around us. Each one of these Symbols has an associated entity, a spirit. (but I loathe the term, so I call them Symbolic Entities, takes a lot of the fluffy out of it.) Some Symbols and Patterns, through imaginative association by other Symbols and Patterns become greater than the sum of their included Symbols and Patterns. (egregores). These Symbolic Entities are we nominally think of as gods. (in my paradigm).

So, in a fashion, I see spirits everywhere. The internet, Highways, parking lots, Grocery stores, my truck etc.
would you consider yourself animist?
I thought the internet was a tool of the devil.... does the devil count as a deity?
it would be worth less than the paper, don't bother.
