PaganSpace.net The Social Network for the Occult Community

It is currently 12:22am here in Savannah, Ga and I am watching chanel 109 (geo tv) and at 1:00 they are going to be showing a program on Druids. The description of the program is this

"(TV-14,V), Investigating claims that the Druids of Celtic Britain practiced human sacrifice almost 2000 years ago. (2009), (Documentary), (V=Intense Violence)"

now, I am not a druid, or a sister of druidism (I know nothing of them). But I do have friends who are and I am asking you what you believe of this program and what you can tell me of Druids today.

I saw that special on NatGeo. Very informative and entertaining.

There has been much speculation on whether or not Druids conducted human sacrifice.

As a Druid and researcher on Druidic practices, it has come to my attention that they did in fact conduct ritual sacrifice; however, back in the day it was considered an honor to sacrifice one's life to appease the Gods. Willing participants gave their lives either as a single sacrifice or mass sacrifice (i.e. wicker men, mass burials, etc...).

As with many ancient traditions, not all of the practices are allowable or legal when reconstructing them in the 20th century, such as human sacrifice or the Great Hunt. Thus, we result in symbolic representations; case in point, a blade within a chalice to symbolize the divine union instead of the Great Hunt, and ritualistic libation as sacrifice.

So should there be anyone interested in Druidry, I kindly ask for the seeker to research and absorb any and all information, as well as remain open-minded to the changes that had to be made in order for this great tradition to remain alive today.

Sincerely,

Diancécht Óndulfr Pálsson

Yes, we practiced human sacrifice a few millennia ago. We even did the "triple death", where we strangled, stabbed and bashed someone in the head at the same time for the triple effect in our workings. It was effective. We never did do the "wicker man" thing, however.

We've evolved, like everyone - well, almost everyone - else. After all, this is the 21st century. We find our sacrifices now in non-animate objects, usually things that are precious to us (hence the term "sacrifice"). Any blood is our own.

We worship Nature, the Great Mother under our feet, the Sky over our heads, the Sea that surrounds us. We venerate our ancestors. We give love and respect to the ones called "gods" (that includes the female, I dislike the term "goddess" as it seems to separate and diminish that "gender"). We no longer sacrifice living things.

However, if we're pissed...

Interesting, can you reference the "never did the 'wicker man' thing"?
By my research it was plausible.

Haha! Yes, then there is our anger management issue...never piss off a Druid!

At one point or another all peoples on the earth did practice human sacrifice, I recommend the book "The Highest Alter" a number of years ago the remains of a human sacrifice were unearthed in England, they showed that the victim a young, man had been ritually slaughtered, that the druids of old did practiced human sacrifice i have little doubt, the Celts were head hunters. Modern Druids are a reconstructionalist religion they are bound by the same laws that we all are so it is highly unlikely they practice human sacrifice.
