Last week, my mom, boyfriend and I went to see a psychic. I was house sitting for my father and I had noticed that there was a new psychic down the street, so we all decided to try it out. She said she did everything from palm reading to Tarot Reading to Chakra and Spirit readings. I had a palm reading before at the corn festival, and the reader was very accurate with my read so I thought I would try it again to see where my lines had shifted and changed.

The first thing that really made we not feel right about the psychic we saw last week is that she was pushing Christianity and church in her reading. I grew up Christian, I even went to a Catholic junior high school, and I was told growing up that everything I was doing such as Tarot, and palm reading was against the Christian church. However I have had issues with the Christian church, and I have been seeking my own spirituality now including mu curiousity with Tarot,, palm reading, mediations, and pyschic ablibilty.

The second thing is she had told each one of us that we had spirits following us. Here's the thing with as many people that have died in this world I could easily see how you can run into a restless spirit or two. However she was claiming that it was the reason for a bad luck. She told me that this spirit that was following me was the real reason why I am distracted from writing my story and why I am so unhappy most of the time. The thing is ever since puberty I would have moments of unhappiness, I just believe it is hormones, not necessarily a spirit.

The third thing that really rubs me the wrong way about this psychic is she was pushing all of us getting cleansings. I understand that cleansing are very important, but I just paid 20 dollars for a reading that maybe she could tell me something about me that I didn't know or what possiblities there in my future with my writings. I wasn't looking at her like a doctor at a check up and I have to go back every three months for a 100 dollar cleansing. She was trying to get at least 100 dollars out of each of us. I understand some people make a living using their psychic gifts, but I really felt she was just too pushy with it.

I was just wondering has anyone else has a bad experience with a psychic?

Psychics are hustlers, and you got hustled.

:-)

Sylvia Browne anyone?

Do you think that all who have psychic abilities are hacks SIN? Or just the ones who profess to be "psychic?" Meaning ones like Sylvia Browne and John Edwards. They do cold readings then claim to be psychic. They just tell you want you want to hear.

Yes, all 'psychics' are hacks. As human beings, we all have our natural instincts, intuition, and the ability to connect to other humans emotionally. Psychic Ability, the type 'psychics' profess they have, is bullshit.

I disagree with this, all human beings can also throw a ball through a hole..but not everyone can do it like Michael Jordan. I believe there are those who are more predetermined to know or "see" however..i believe that this is indeed a natural gift which is more of a throwback rather then an advancement. Coincidence only covers so many aspects of what some sensitives are capable of..when they go beyond coincidence..then there is more left to be examined. I DO however believe that putting oneself in the "spotlight" or charging money for readings to help people..tarnishes the gift. I believe to be true to what is being seen, one has to be 100% unbiased in order to read it accurately..if one is accepting money..they are no longer unbiased. But..that is my personal opinion.

Disagree all you like WV, there is absolutely zero evidence to support psychic ability, and it's not for a lack of trying either.

What we are talking about here, is an ability that all human beings have, but it is *not* at all like what 'psychics' describe.

lmao...tis what i love about ya SIN..you speak your mind as I do..however...the problem with "proving abilities" is that the tests they subject you to..neither define nor explain what is happening..therefor are considered inconclusive, however, that does not mean that certain people are not more attuned to nature and her ways more then others..as i said..i believe it is something akin to any other gift that people have.

And I DO believe that everyone has the ability to sense things..it is an animal trait..as i said..a throwback to a time where we needed to rely on our instincts rather then our technology. Some are better at it then others. And i HATE the word "psychic" It is demeaning in many ways...and has been given a really horrible reputation due to those who seek to profit from it.

That's the common excuse given for parapsychology WV, and that's all it is - an excuse. There's still an on-going reward, (I think it's 2M right now) for any proof, one scrap of evidence of psychic ability. No one has been able to meet the criteria, and it's not a fixed test. The test uses the scientific method. If I made a claim, that I could fly - you would want evidence of this wouldn't you?

I would like to do away with the term, 'Psychic' it's utter nonsense. We are human beings, with specific abilities - not GIFTS!

Honey, I speak from experience here. I read tarot, tea leaves, rocks, birds, rolls on tummies - it's all useful. And I'm accurate, why? How? It's not rocket science. I know how to pick up on things, because I'm human.

2 years ago, this extremely skeptical woman sat down at my table at Ferry Plantation House, determined to prove me a charlatan. She wanted a tea reading, she wasn't going to tell me squat, and she laid her money on the table. She was just adorable. An elderly woman, holding her husband's hand ever so tightly. I handed her back her money, and told her I don't ask for the money before I read. She could hold on to it, and decide to pay me when the reading was finished.

I was there, at the request of the historical house, to aid them in raising funds for fixing the porch at the Ferry Plantation house.

Anyway...

I provide her with a tray of various teas, in various containers to examine and select. She chooses carefully, I pour the water and let it steep. I make no eye contact with her while I'm doing this. She's not saying a word. We had an unspoken understanding - she wanted her proof.

After a few minutes, I instructed her to drink the tea and allow about 1" of liquid to remain in the cup. I ask her to hold the cup, and reflect on what she wants from me. An answer? Guidance? She need not speak it. She does so, and hands me the cup and saucer.

I turn it over, allowing the liquid to drain on to the saucer. Then I reveal the cup to her, with all the lovely patterns of tea leaves. The patterns which tell me her story.

She doesn't speak, she waits. And I begin.

I tell her she works in the field of animals, and I point to the little woman walking a dog. She raises her eyebrows. I go on, and tell her that she's not a vet, but she was a lead. As I look at the cup, I could hear her breathing getting erratic. Aha! You work in fund-raising!

She stands up, her husband patting her on the back. "It's okay dear, go on." He's assuring her it's okay to continue with the reading. She sits back down. "Go on" she says. I look on, and see little birds in the cup - this indicates me, she's concerned with flight. The rest, was logic, reasoning, and my ability to read people.

I put the cup down, and told her if she was concerned with leaving her fund-raising, she should stay - not give up. What she was doing, was helping a lot of animals. The sigh of relief she gave. She handed me the money. She got up from the table, and left. She and her husband didn't leave the house, they stayed for the tour.

Later, she sits down and tells me - that I rekindled her faith in psychics. I told her I was not a psychic. She looked surprised. I told her I was a woman, like she was a woman. That, she too could tell me something profound about myself. I asked her if she had children. She told me she had two daughters. I asked her if she gave her daughters advice, and asked her where that advice came from. She began to understand. Having never met her before in my life, she told me everything with her presence at my table.

Humans are amazing creatures, and it downright pisses me off when people attribute our amazing abilities to some boogie in the sky, or some hollywood created, 'gift'.

Screw you all - we are gods.

Before I lead into my usual smart ass remarks, I want to say that I loved this recounting. Well done.

as for the rolls on tummies comment... at Out of the Broom Closet, I'll show you my belly and you can read my rolls but yer gonna need a road map, a compass and an army canteen... it's gonna take a while...

no worries, I got gloves, and flour - we'll find the wet spot {oh wait, wrong site!}
LMAO..... *wiping coke off my monitor...*
There is no absolute proof for many things that are real. A number of psychics have done exemplary work for various police departments over the years so the zero evidence comment is probably an oversight an your part.

I did not pay 100 dollars for the cleansing, but I was really frustrated, because she did say that I was unhappy, but then again I could have had that written on my face.
I do honestly believe in psychic ability, but I think that psychic should go someone and get certified some how like a doctor, before that charged people for it.
