“Harm none” and “Law of three”

Is it a inner need of masochism that we as humans have?

In the land of Wicca and Witchcraft, I’ve often stumbled on the “harm none
And the law of three.. or ten or what ever number.

What I ask myself is why restrict our life’s and ways, when most of us know we create very much of what is happening in our life, with our thoughts.
And we also know about the concept of self fulfilling . We still act on and even consider living by a “law of 3”.,

On the other hand we know from our own experience that if someone jumps all over us we tend to react in a less polite way towards that particular person.

So in my little world we know that from a action there will be a re-action and we also know that we do create much of our own boundaries, and yet we tend to be willing to fence our selves in by stronger laws” or traditions…why do we do this? Are we afraid of our own strength?
Are we in secret some sort of masochists..??

Ok I’ll stop my rambling now ..hm for a moment I think…lol

That's an interesting thought. I don't personally follow the "harm none" or "law of three" rules, since I'm not Wiccan-- but that is a very, very interesting thought.

There was an addition to the "law of three" verse that I saw somewhere that went something along the lines of "Mind the threefold law you must, in perfect love and perfect trust, unless someone cause harm to thee, then never mind the rule of three" or something like that.

Anyone else seen that version of it?

Anyway, it's an interesting point you make, Vindviska.

I don't think it's possible to live and harm none. Just by breathing the air we take in microbes. Stepping outside we squish bugs. Even if we are vegetarian, we kill plants (living things) and eat them. I think it's just about being the best people we can be, and trying not to spread hate.

mm i follow your thought..and yes i think you are right it isnt possible to live here on this planet without harming others , and now thinking on the micorbes youre talking about and the bug and especially ticks eww i do not! like them!

Yes I think people are presumptuous to think that the law only applies to harming other humans. We aren't the only "sentient beings," after all.

I believe the rule is referring to intentionally harming another. I could be mean to you, lie to you, cast a curse on you...all of those would be things that would hurt another and would go against that.

so what you are saying if we do not know we are doing something wrong we do not get "blamed" for it?

hm interesting..

It comes down to intention. If I intentionally harm another, that's bad. If I accidentally harm another, it's not quite so bad - like if a squirrel darts in front of my car and I kill it. I didn't intentionally kill the squirrel.

Some people are right on here though. It is impossible to never harm none. We all harm the environment for example - cars, electricity, etc.

In my mind, it's basically, live your best and don't intentionally harm another.

hmm this is interesting..
how do you interpret them?

*on a note here, i do not follow them none of them*
and i still consider myself as quite "nice"/harmless

i mean from my own point of view i do not wish to harm, i do not enjoy harming others, but if they repeatedly get in my face or are trying their best to harm me, i will perform the payback a la grande ...
goes for viruses too..lol
