“Harm none” and “Law of three”

Is it a inner need of masochism that we as humans have?

In the land of Wicca and Witchcraft, I’ve often stumbled on the “harm none
And the law of three.. or ten or what ever number.

What I ask myself is why restrict our life’s and ways, when most of us know we create very much of what is happening in our life, with our thoughts.
And we also know about the concept of self fulfilling . We still act on and even consider living by a “law of 3”.,

On the other hand we know from our own experience that if someone jumps all over us we tend to react in a less polite way towards that particular person.

So in my little world we know that from a action there will be a re-action and we also know that we do create much of our own boundaries, and yet we tend to be willing to fence our selves in by stronger laws” or traditions…why do we do this? Are we afraid of our own strength?
Are we in secret some sort of masochists..??

Ok I’ll stop my rambling now ..hm for a moment I think…lol

If someone wants to tie their hands behind their back and lay down on the train tracks for me I'm not the kind of Snidely Wiplash who would put up a fuss about it. Its like taking a willing handicap. I don't have this handicap. If its me vs. someone who does... Bwahahahahaha! *Twists Moustache*

I think the law of three is more of a reminder... like the Golden Rule: What you do, you do to you.

This sharing thoughts time has been interesting.

I still think we, to often, use thought patterns that has the potential of making us less free.
i also think its wise to look at them from time to time and see if the "rules are serving their purpose and making us grow or if they are really making us give away our power.

Anyway i wanted to say thank you for sharing your thoughts

Non-violence in its fullest form means to refrain from causing any harm or pain to any creature,
by thought, word, or deed.

This makes it clear that any negative thought or action toward another is harm: calling names, wishing ill, throwing their belongings, etc.

Also, when inaction causes harm to others, you have the responsible to act to prevent harm.

Respect and love yourself, otherwise you can't respect and love others. "Harm none" must start with yourself. Do things that are good for you. Avoid things that are bad for you. [Of course, this is a science in itself!]

When you remember that all beings are manifestations of the Divine, the same as you are, you realize that all are equally valued by the Goddess. And you can't avoid the truth that you and they are not separate beings at all. So harming anyone is harming the Divine, and yourself.

Think of the consequences of your actions/words/thoughts and you will not only make better choices but step out of pre-programmed reactions and mechanical behaviours.

Virtually every action harms some being, if only microbes. By leading a spiritual life, offering everything you do to the service of the Divine, you will not be harming yourself or the Divine.

All of these lead you to look deep into life, rather than skimming along on the surface.

This is what I follow. It gives me a guide that I live by and peace in my life.

Brightest Blessings :)

I am not Wiccan. But I am a Pagan. When I began to study, I could not research back far enough to find a source for the Pagan Rede, or the 3-Fold Law, much less what seems to be the more obscure 9-Fold Law I was taught.

But all three exist, and are part of our collective Pagan consciousness. We hold power. We Draw Down the Moon. We call elemental Guardians. We work in sacred space. Those laws are there to remind us that we must be respectful, that we belong to a very old order of people. And as a constant reminder of what they mean.

I learned that the Pagan Rede of "Do what thou wilt, but harm ye none" means we live and work and play with a consciousness that we are powerful; and because of that, we must always remember never to harm others.

I learned the 3-fold Law. "If ye cast and inadvertently harm another it will be returned to ye 3-fold. Yet if ye cast and help another, that too shall be returned to ye 3-fold." This reminds me that my actions have responsibilities, and I must be mindful.

I learned the 9-fold Law. "If ye cast in order to harm another, it will be returned to ye 9-fold." I've known this Law, but never been concerned, since I already adhere to the Rede and 3-fold Law. As my High Priestess of many years ago taught me (her knowledge was generationally passed down), it is one last stop-gap to get witches to stop and consider the ramifications of their actions.

Blessed be!

Okay, I just have to toss this in: last time I checked, "the rede" is Wiccan in origin. As there is no consensus of pagan belief, it certainly can't be pagan.

We hold power. We Draw Down the Moon. We call elemental Guardians. We work in sacred space.

Secondly, some pagans may do these things, but certainly not enough of them to make such a generalization. I know I don't and I have as much right to the term 'pagan' as anyone else.

I understand if this is just your personal belief/opinion, it just needed to be said.

This is a hard one to follow, even as a Pagan. I say that simply because I feel all our interactions are entwined which means that what we do has an impact on people we don't even know. It is the Domino Effect. So I DO try hard to be careful, because I do believe in Karma.
