Ok the power in these miraculous stones is quite intreging when one does not understand how to use them in the right way.

Day before yesterday I purchased some hematite magnetic stones from a local new age shop. I thought they were so interesting as I held them in my hands. I wonder what could these stones be used for other than jewelry as the shop keeper told me.

Does any one have experience with these stones?
What is there purpose?
What do you use them for?

Hematite itself is good for drawing illnesses from the body, grounding (it's most well known use), and because of it's dark color, skrying. Magnetic hematite, however, would be generally used for healing purposes, most often used for rheumatism, arthritis or other joint-related afflictions because of it's magnetic qualities. Not un-like magnetized copper jewelry which is more and more common these days.

I don't have the magnetic ones, but generally I use hematite (in jewelry form) for protection and to reflect/repel negativity. A common belief is that you wear a hematite ring until it breaks, which is a sign that either you're a target of some negative energy or you've simply reached the limit of how many negative people and situations it can handle. Basically the ring channels the negativity away from you so that you never receive its full impact. You may want to buy a couple rings at a time, depending how often you break them. Supposedly if you scratch hematite and then run your finger over the scratch, it will "heal" itself... which may be one of the reasons why it's also associated with healing. It was originally called bloodstone, which makes sense since its streak is a rusty red like blood given that it's composed of iron oxide. However, I would recommend using actual bloodstone (the dark green with red speckles variety) for any healing that's focused on the blood (even things like planters warts and cancers since you'd want to focus on cutting off the blood supply to starve the affliction). A good sized piece of hematite in spherical or pillow cut would make a good scrying mirror as well.

As for anything magnetic, I usually find that they're used to attract things. There are also those who believe that magnetic therapy (usually in the form of bracelets) will help heal the body and reduce pain. You may want to make a bracelet with your hematite to capitalize on this. Or perhaps focus on the repelling qualities of magnets and use the stones to repel unwanted negativity.

my daughter brought home a hematite "santeria" bracelet a few months ago and since i know about the ground qualities of it i traded some of my stones with her.. she took all the saints off of it and now its a plain black bracelet... but it has such a grounding and calming quality that i wear it ever day.

Thank you all for your replies.

I have been doing some researching into the stones and found out the Hematite is connected to the elements of Earth and Fire and the planetary body of Saturn. It is both grounding and healing and yet allows great room for spiritual growth, manifestations and divination. It is considered the "Stone of the Mind" . And in some cultures they call them "Singing Stones" because the magnetic abilities cause them to hum when the energy forces pull the together.

As many of you have stated they are grounding and healing stones. I thank you for all your imput.

BB Woodland.
