So... having your 7 year old drink a mixture of Red Bull and Mountain Dew, then dance around in a two piece, while showing off her tummy okay?

I recommend no one watch this. Just know that this show, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, is a spin off of Toddlers & Tiaras, and is a horrible, horrible thing.

The discussion: Child Beauty Pageants

Is this okay?

If so how, severe of an infraction is this? Should there be intervention? Charges even?

Would you rather see a Hunger Games like scenario, but, with convicted murderers/rapist?

(I say this because there will always be some train wreck-like, horrible televised event, people must watch.

Just to let you know how real this is, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo got higher ratings than both the RNC and the DNC.

I still haven't had the chance to watch it yet but I want to.

Just so long as you aren't hooked up to a Nielsen Box.

I recommend pirating it for those who could potentially give them money by viewing it.

My wife tuned me into this show. We call it train wreck television. I don't have cable, or for that matter a desire to have access but we can pick up odds and sods off the computer.

I don't think it's child abuse, in my opinion it's child exploitation; and that little girls parents may be mentally challenged.

These people are capitalizing on an opportunity. As to charges, I don't see any laws being broken. It's distasteful, certainly.

The "Hunger Games" televised is coming. That's the future, and I truly believe we'll end up there. Perhaps even in my life time. Look how successful the "Survivor" franchise was....or maybe it still is.

Is that still on? Man, I'm really out of touch.

I can't help but laugh when I watch this show.

Let's think about it though, pretty much all of reality tv is a joke. Look at that Kate Goslin show(i forgot the name already) that was a train wreck too. These poor kids are forced into the spotlight without a guardian to speak on their behalf and clearly all their parents think of is the dollar signs that are there at the end of the day. I think when they do these shows there should be some law(or umm..ethical code of conduct of some sort) where children get an an advocate on their behalf in the event the parent pushes them beyond their limits for personal gain.  Especially these stupid beauty pageants, girls have a hard enough time accepting their bodies and feeling beautiful without being thin as a rail. Why add to the challenge by forcing them into tutus and frilly dresses while wearing ten pounds of makeup to make them feel "special"? Then humiliating the poor kids on National TV no less.  Child exploitation for sure no doubt, along with mothers desperate to relive their childhood dreams through their kids lives. *smh* it's a shame.

I think though, on the other side of the discussion here, in all honesty, that if we put any one of our lives on reality tv it would come close to a train wreck to most viewers. I know mine would anyway on some days. And some times my life is a train wreck, but if at the end of the day, my kids are fed, dressed and happy then who cares what the rest of america thinks. That seems like the attitude of this woman anyway.Unfortunately at a high cost to her kids.

I just feel sorry for that poor little girl.

"I just feel sorry for that poor little girl".........me too

"I don't think it's child abuse, in my opinion it's child exploitation; and that little girls parents may be mentally challenged."

Forcing your kids to perform is exploitation, but pouring energy drink down a 7 year old's throat, I'd call that abuse.

I agree that her mom may have Down Syndrome or something.

Is that where you got the name "honey boo boo" for your big fat chicken? (you mention that name on your blog).

It is where i got it from. I thought I mentioned that in the story - maybe it was in another blog or an answer. Man, I'm getting old and forgetful.

Wow, you and Corvus could do the popcorn Thursday thing!

She loved Lost. Jericho was her favorite though, back when we were in civilization. Now there's something called Revolution she's been telling me about and she's of the opinion that it must be written by the Jericho people.

I just started watching a show called Game of Thrones. My goodness, is it ever twisted!

I like real reality shows. Cops for instance.

I also like Face Off, though I DVR it and watch the final 10 minutes.

When I saw previews for her show on Logo, I was like "WTF gays, nooo" >_/p>

Lol@trainwreck television, Ritalin.

And Robert, why you hating on True Blood? :P

i dont watch reality shows, nascar and football for me

as far as the topic-i think exploitin a child in any way should be a crime,i seen a few kids and there parents into that,i cant tell whos the parent or the child.
