Hello I am of Mexican decent and today a cousin of mine taught me how to make a Decenario.. it is a rosary bracelet made by the poor in Mexico to have with them at all times so that they are able to pray the rosary. Here is a link of what one looks like..

Of course this is based on the traditional one decate Catholic rosary, where there are 10 knots or beads per decate.
Being of course that I am no longer Catholic, I would like to change it up a bit to suit my pagan beliefs, but yet still show some of my ethnic traditions as well. Question is how many knots to use? I have searched online and there are so many variations of pagan prayer beads. I thought of doing a knot for each lunar month, maybe one knot for each sabbat, or 9 for the traditional witches ladder. Then of course at the end I will put a symbol of my current beliefs instead of the cross. I was thinking it would be cool to put an evil eye bead on the end or maybe a goddess pendant, or maybe both..lol. So anyway in your opinion how many knots would you use and why?
I'm curious to see your responses. I have only been practicing for going on 3 yrs now and still consider myself as learning. Thanks in advance.
Blessings,
Elena

She is very particular to the number of beads she uses based on the intention and type of stone.
27 seems to come up a lot.

I was thinking of making them and selling them next year at a women's festival if they come out well... I never thought of changing the number of knots for a specific intention... very interesting... I'll keep that in mind..

Permalink Reply by Elena Autuhm Rose Moon on April 15, 2012 at 11:27pm so today during my pagan crafting group while making fairy wreaths, we discussed how many beads/knots should be on a prayer bead bracelet. There seems to be no consensus on how many beads/ knots there should be. It was suggested one for each full moon, plus one for the maiden, mother and crone. There was one person that suggested one for each full and dark moon, and yet another person said I should just do the ten in a traditional catholic rosary and 3 to dangle like in a catholic rosary for the maiden, mother and crone. Basically I'm more confused than when I started. Any opinions on how many should be put in a pagan rosary? If so why?
