I was wondering what people consider an Elder. For me I am 41 and consider myself one. I have been maiden, mother, and now crone. What are your thoughts?
Thanks

Who are you an Elder to?

I count an elder by years of experience. 20 - 30 years of experience = Elder. :3

Age is only an indicator to the amount of opportunities at experience on has had. How much wisdom was gained from such experiences assuming they made use of such opportunities is up for debate.

I experienced more by 21 then many I still converse with and I am far from knowing it all well enough to consider myself anything more than a solitaire that could help a newbie if so inclined.

I did not say age. I said "years of Experience" Lemme clarify. "Years of experience in the craft/religion/etc"

This is what I consider to be an elder. And I mean active experience. Actually I had a blog on this. Blog

So assuming that your experiences are valid, then you would be an elder in THAT tradition. Again...years mean nothing I know plenty of old fools.

Oh I know a lot of old fools LOL

I agree; An elder is one who has been tried and true, and shows illumination and wisdom, regardless of their current age. They may very well be young in this life, but an old soul ...Pam, you are a shining example of one who is exalted!

Correct. You'd be an elder of THAT tradition.

Furthermore, you've known a lot of fools. So have I, obviously from my blog. Experience must be valid, as you said. Fools are people who demand that people accept their experiences as valid. Fools are people who don't think anyone else who thinks differently or behaves differently is valid. They have no respect for themselves and in return, respect no one else. Fools will never be elders because they have no validity [by demanding that people believe them, they lose their validity].

Indulge me by letting this quote explain why it is a life lived that gives experience to become an Elder..when you think you have obtained it...when you have *it* in your hands, ... only then do you understand how much folly most of it is.....

“Thoroughly unprepared, we take the step into the afternoon of life. Worse still, we take this step with the false presupposition that our truths and our ideals will serve us as hitherto. But we cannot live the afternoon of life according to the program of life’s morning, for what was great in the morning will be little at evening and what in the morning was true, at evening will have become a lie.”
