I have a question and I wanted to ask this since it's going to be something I'm working on in the future, I was wanting to know how to get in touch with the native spirits of the land and how to do this without offending a Native American... I have some Native blood but I don't really think about it too much since I can't prove it. I am adopted and don't know too much about my real parents other than I am a strange mix! I would like to study something like this and learn more about the spirits of the Americas and how to work with the land and not against it. I feel like I could use to learn something here. I'm not sure where to go with this, but I wondred what I could do. If you want to comment please do. I would like to know more...

There are books out there on Native Americans and their beliefs. But I agree with Dream, getting in tune with nature is awesome.

As Dream stated getting atuned to nature is a good start. You could do some studying of the native spirits and how to reach them. Native sprituality is wonderful.

Good luck in your search my sister.

Brightest Blessings :)

Why would you offend Native Americans? Many different cultures believe in indigenous spirits. Heathens call them "landvaettir" and beginning a relationship with the ones that live around your home is as easy as leaving a simple offering.

What I think is that I would like to explore my roots and maybe leave offerings for Native American spirits which may be the spirits that come with the land I'm living on. I am learning how to smudge and I love that. I am just no ttrying to hijack their faith and make it my own just to suit my personal desires. I actualy don't know for a fact whther that would be offensive or no. I like learning about heathen stuff too . That's pretty cool.

The Native americans and First Peoples are really upset when we co-opt their practices... even smudging with Sage. They view it as disrespectful.

Right. I've heard that. And while I'm not full blooded, I can understand completely, totally. I have the same issues that I think about when I do study other practices native to a certain people like vodou or santeria like I probably maybe shouldn't because those are not my native spirits and they might be annoyed or worse. What I think though, is that when people feel close to native american spirits really maybe if they liv in the americas they are just feeling the call of the land adn it's natural because these spirits want and deserve attention. I believe they are real. Some people may not and that's ok.

Respect the land on which you live and the land around you, for you belong to the Earth it does not belong to you. Live in harmony with it and the spirits will smile upon you. Never take without replacing and never desecrate that which should be honored.

Sit quietly with Mother Earth and Father Sky, ask the Great Spirit to help you in your quest to connect with those that have walked before you. In the greatest respect we receive the most assistance.

Blessings of the Day ~!

Most welcome Jackie, My base is always Mother Earth and Father Sky, the Great Spirit guides me in all I do and everyday I find the time to sit outside, not on a chair or in the swing but on the Earth at the Great Spirits side listening for that guidance. Just as I learned at the knees of my daddy and granddaddy I learn at the Great Spirits as well every day still. In every breeze, drop of rain, flow of water, rustling of tree branches, stone and grain of dirt or sand there is something to learn, know and love. The spirits of your people who walked before you will know and hear you and they will come to support you in your quest.

That's cool. I need to get in touch with my ancestors that;s true. My adoptive parents mean well, but they don't don't really get where I'm coming from sometimes about why I don't agree about Jesus and religion. I think you're right and to talk to my flesh and blood kin who have passed on. I am thinking about trying to get in touch with my biological dad too because he's still alive and I think I might want to try and do that before I lose the chance.
