Popular fantasy artist Jessica Galbreth, creator of the Enchanted Oracle (with Barbara Moore, published by Llewellyn) now calls the images she made "satanic"--even going so far to say she was likely "demon possessed" when she created such products.
In 2009, this deck/book set won a COVR award for Best Sidelines (Interactive).
Jessica also admitted that she deliberately created her winged creatures and fairy maidens to look "malevolent".
Talking about her past using Tarot cards and Ouija boards, she claims to have a life-long thirst for "secrets" and paranormal knowledge, particularly obsessed by death...and beyond.
Also admitting to being financially driven and "prideful", Jessica said she was "empty inside"...even after reaching each personal goal or career milestone.
Her daughter began having "abnormal fears" stemming from Jessica's art "becoming real". She and her husband, Josh, happened to send their son to a preschool--which was Christian. Thus began her journey to "the Light" and accepting Jesus as "her personal savior".
She points out that she "fell for the idea that Christianity kept women down" and that the patriarchal religion was all about rules, but says she realized that this wasn't the case at all.
You can see her exclusive interview with CBN (founded by Pat Robertson) below, which shows her and her husband throwing away large canvases in a dumpster.
Jessica Galbreth now paints under the The Vintage Angel brand, which includes angel imagery, fantasy couture, Christian art, jewelry and more.

Do you know what really upsets me about this. I grew up with her art and her faeries and I aspired to be like as an artist. To hear that suddenly coming out with this. Shes dumping on her own former work because she changed her affinity and I feel like its putting down the people who liked her work. I think this is all really a marketing ploy to aim at a new demographic. It really infuriates me and I find it hurtful because I used to love her faeries and work.

I thought her artwork was very beautiful. I actually own a deck of her Oracle cards, and they were my favorite ones to read with. To hear her come out like this and say her work was "satanic"... I used to idolize her and her work, and also wanted to learn how to paint/draw like her. I just lost a huge amount of respect for her.
Permalink Reply by Psyche on August 9, 2012 at 6:13pm Me too Sable. I was so disgusted and angry it took me a while to process. I mean if she just wanted to changed what she was doing then its fine, but diss her former work and by it the people who loved her work is disgusting.
Permalink Reply by Aurelia Pontia on August 9, 2012 at 8:04pm I doubt she's sincere. She's probably felt she's done all she can in pagan circles and will make more money doing her art for Christians - much like Renaissance artists working for the Church - but in order to do that she has to make a very public - hence the TV spot - "conversion". That will let Christians be smug about their beliefs and give her art a big plug of free publicity and a huge boost in sales.
Permalink Reply by Starrfire Price on August 9, 2012 at 9:35pm She's actually been on both sides of the fence so to speak for years doing both Pagan themed and Christian themed Angels (she did her angel art under a different name years back). Not that I have a problem with her choosing two styles of art, but years ago I felt like she was trying to kinda sell herself to both sides of the beliefs under the guise of possibly being a part of both beliefs, which pretty much soured me and it's why I chose to no longer buy her art. I knew about her alternate art years ago, I guess now she's just made the leap very publicly so to speak.
On a personal note, the Pagan Community is where she gained her popularity and notoriety, I don't think you should metaphorically spit on the beliefs of the good people that got you where you are today. Whatever belief makes someone happy I'm all for it and I know numerous people who went from Paganism to Christianity and we all remained close friends, they didn't make any bad comments about Paganism after they converted nor did they want to.
It's a shame she didn't take the opportunity to tell others of the many wonderful people she knew and met along the road of Paganism.
Permalink Reply by Psyche on August 9, 2012 at 9:44pm I agree Starr. I was really sad to see her do this. It felt like a personal insult when I saw the clip from the 700 club. She said that that time when she was drawing Faeries was a dark time in her life because its satanic and wicked.
Permalink Reply by Starrfire Price on August 9, 2012 at 11:09pm It probably didn't feel satanic and wicked when she cashed the checks. Sorry, that wasn't very nice but I couldn't help myself..lol
Permalink Reply by Psyche on August 9, 2012 at 11:11pm LOL I was thinking the same thing. I think she was running out of inspiration and decided "oh hey Christians are money machines I will turn into a full fledged fundie". I was disgusted by this especially going to the 700 club with her story, makes her more unseemly.
