PaganSpace.net The Social Network for the Occult Community

Shalom! This is a discussion for all Jewitches. I would say that my spiritual practice, while really a bit of everything, is founded mainly on Nordic Heathenism, Wicca and liberal Earth-based Judaism. While it has never been proven for either us, I and my life coach Shelby Weitzel are believed to both be either an eighth or a quarter Jewish, and I strongly believe we are. Since I was very young I have been surrounded by, and felt an affinity for, the Jewish people and always knew that I was one. In my life I have a wealth of stories on this topic. I was thinking of getting a DNA test but since my psychic senses and experiences are so sharp I don't think I need to waste the money on it! Any and all Jewitches are welcome to talk here. :)

I see it like this. The reform sect of Judaism does not take the passages in the Torah as literally as the conservative and orthodox sects. In reform Judaism, the Covenant of the Chosen People is interpreted as a special bond between us and Adonai ( Jews are not allowed to call God by His real name). However, it does not mean that anyone who's Jewish has to worship only Him, eat kosher or believe that He gave humans dominion over the Earth. I owe my life to two influential reform Jews who convinced my mother that it was okay for me to wear a prosthetic tail. According to liberal Jewish thought you can worship Adonai, the Great Goddess, many Gods or a combination of Them. Basically you're allowed to do and believe whatever you want. The difference between reform Jews and Jewitches is that reform Jews just worship one God but are not against worshipping others whereas Jewitches worship many Gods in addition to Adonai. We may worship the Goddess and/or the male Lord. I worship all Gods, Goddesses and the male Lord.

How do reform Jews take Mosaic laws and the Ten Commandments? Aren't Jewish people required to follow those laws?

Look up Shekkinah.. I read that she is the female counterpart to Jehovah

Yeah, and in the Hebrew scriptures the pronoun for the Holy Spirit, the Shekinah has been said to be female. Meaning the Trinity could be Father Mother and Son...too late to send links and long cut and pastes...but a cool thought?

last time i checked you cant be a witch and believe in the christian gods

Says who?

Says The Bible. Unless you want to get into the whole "What does Pharmakoi actually mean?" debate.

Seriously, the Bible is very explicit about it's disapproval of witchcraft, sorcery, etc.

The equation is;
You can be a witch and believe in the Hebrew gods (with an historical/ mythological perspective, not just Biblical) ...you just won't be accepted by the Christians.

You can't be an Orthodox Jew and be a witch...you can be a non-religious jew and practice witchcraft.

Once had a great conversation with a friend, very Jewish (raised Reformed, non-practicing)...who now practices witchcraft. He said "When I became a witch, did that mean I must wear a Kilt? oy Vey!"
This is all simply put...

yes...and she did say that she was speaking of earth based judaism.

and for kalumus...have you ever studied judaism to begin with? how they view diety? what their beliefs are? the fact that they don't have one central, controlling dogma that they hold over their people to begin with? they are not christian you know! not even close.

i think not. maybe you should know what you are talking about before you profess to know.

Okay so if you're following the religion, then you're Jewish. If you're not following the religion, then you are not Jewish. I'm sorry, but I don't buy the whole "I can be whatever I want to be and still use that name!" philosophy that I see A LOT in the pagan community.

Doing so, in my opinion, is a slap in the face to the Jews (Catholics, Christians, Muslims etc.) who actually DO follow the tenets of their faith to the greatest of their ability and don't look for "loopholes" so they can have their cake and eat it too.

Yes, I recognize there are different sects and branches of all religions, but there comes a point where you're not even following the religion anymore and are more or less striking out on your own and doing your own thing, and I don't think there's anything wrong with just being honest about that.

But like I said before, this is just my opinion. *shrug*
