Shalom! This is a discussion for all Jewitches. I would say that my spiritual practice, while really a bit of everything, is founded mainly on Nordic Heathenism, Wicca and liberal Earth-based Judaism. While it has never been proven for either us, I and my life coach Shelby Weitzel are believed to both be either an eighth or a quarter Jewish, and I strongly believe we are. Since I was very young I have been surrounded by, and felt an affinity for, the Jewish people and always knew that I was one. In my life I have a wealth of stories on this topic. I was thinking of getting a DNA test but since my psychic senses and experiences are so sharp I don't think I need to waste the money on it! Any and all Jewitches are welcome to talk here. :)

"One nature delights in another, one nature overcomes another, one nature overrules another, and the whole of them are one". - engraving found in Memphis

I cannot apply a theory of inequality because I cannot apply a theory of dominance or independence. Interdependence means that one does not exist if it is without the other. How can you be truly dominant over something that you can not exist without? I think we have to agree to disagree on this one. Great debate!
Isn't the term "Jewitch" being used here as indicating a confluence of two traditions, rather than in the heritage pedigree manner?

There are a few places where ethnicity is stated along with the pathway. Like those of only a couple generations in this country who claim a grandfather who was an ancient "Cherokee Medicine Man" or some other unlikely relationship to such recent immigrants. I guess this is common when referring to any Paleopagan faith and the current generations of its ancient peoples.

For the Ethiopic part, the Jews who traveled and settled down there originally have been subsumed into the population they intermarried with over the centuries. Small wonder they don't look very much like most of those very distant kin living on the Upper West Side.

On the one hand witchcraft was obviously practised by the favourites of YHWH on the other it is mentioned in a very negative context...correct me if I am wrong but witchcraft had been prohibited by a king who later asked a witch for help to meet --- was it Samuel? The witch herself said that it was not allowed to work for her before she did as it was asked to.
So it definitely had (and has) a tradition as old as the tribes of israel it just was not popular among the dominant part of society.

Ok Amber I see your point now. BTW I had fun too. (:

To the dominant Jewish population Witchcraft is still unpopular even into today. The conservative and orthodox Jews are against Witchcraft, holding all creation as equal and polytheism in general. The ones of this type that I have known have, as I had mentioned, put me and my best friends down for being otherkin. It's the reform sect of Judaism alone that I think gets it right. I have a plea for a more interspecies, Earth-based, pluralistic Judaism for the ENTIRE tribe as well as versions like that for Christianity and Islam. I know many Witches, reform Jews, creation-based Christians who all accept me. Reform Jews choose to worship just Adonai but have no problems with others being polytheistic; I wish that the dominant Jewish faith would not literally believe that only their God is true. But they do. The Judaism I practice is real and practiced by Jews, but sadly it is not the standard brand of the religion.

hrmpf yeah well that was a problem since it came up first.
I still can not understand why "Surely, other Gods exist, but XYZ is the only Deity we worship".
Like the guy who thinks only Mama is a real woman. From everyone elses viewpoint it is definitely a provocation, and if this attitude really flatters Mama, then I would think umm well maybe somethings wrong with her.

This has become a really interesting subject. Because on one hand you do have some things which identify with Jews. Examples include, Lilith and another idol which the Hebrews worshipped alongside Moses when, according to Old Testament when they established their own freedom from domination, excluding Moses' ideals at one point. If you know this particular idol, please let me know the name because I've always wished to know.

Then their are the Kabbalistic Astrology and here is the key which directs our other resources to Solomon. The biggest mystery of Prophets. I'm still concerned or interested (?) in Ethiopia and the New Jerusalem which is in ruins and desolate. Solomon and the black mistress, Sheba. These are all important factors which do have magick, mystery, and definitely mysticism.

As for Jewish in language, well even that is a start as to how many of them branched out all over the map! We've been warned that a part of the Apocraphy was discovered in a cave, and that once these secrets were revealed the Jews feared they would all be killed. Now, I still wonder if that myth was an actual event or not. So perhaps, there is a secret regarding the mystery of the Apocraphy and the revelations and powers in which it has been deemed to hold. This much I will say about Jewitches.... hehe

I find that the conservative and orthodox Jews who believe that there is literally one true God and humans are superior to animals are not that nice to begin with. They are bossy, rigid, inflexible types who see their way of thinking as the only right way. I have known wonderful reform Jews who are the total opposite of those types. Do you ever think that ALL Judaism will be relaxed and Earthy? I sure hope so. By the way, is it an ethnic slur to say "Jew" too many times. I hesitate to use the term "Jewish people" because besides me there are plenty of other Jewish otherkin. And I have said this in my other posts, but pork is my FAVORITE meat! :) In reform Judaism the kosher laws are completely optional.

O.o

A short while ago, The Boss of the respective org. said they needed a symbolic fence so they were able to carry their children on Sabbath. This fence would not exactly be cheap since only symbolic, there has to be an own squad checking if it is not damaged.
The more they explained it the more absurd it appeared.

The mean thing about it is that no one can say "whoa, cut some slack" because that would be regarded as Anti Semitic. If folks need a school, if they need a place to hold their religious services, or if they demand better living conditions (in case of fugitives e.G. but plenty others do not live in palaces exactly) I am alright with that.

But it's the whole country that is a little weird. Just now the Head of the Socialdemocrats claimed that crosses and crucifixes as mandatory in classes and other official places are alright...and why? because of the special agreement between the Vatican and Austria (which is actually something like a mafia deal). Compared to this, the Orthodox appear cozy and their requests are creative and intriguing.

Lilith was never worshiped. She was a minor Babylonian wind spirit that the Hebrews inherited during Babylonian captivity. Her name is the word for owls, spirits of her type, and herself. That's why the OT passage in Isa. 34:14 is questionable. She was considered a harmful spirit that preyed on women and children. She never gained any prominence until the medieval era in the alphabet of Ben Sira, which is based on other oral Jewish folklore about her.

Khephera does a good job explaining Lilith's historical origin in this essay.

Now for goddesses the Hebrews did actually worship, please see the book the Hebrew goddess. Goddesses like Astarte, Anath, and Asherah were worshiped amongst the ancient Hebrews. In fact Asherah was considered El's wife.
