Looks like I will hunting for a new job...I am not a christian!

I am a preschool teacher, been doing this since 1996.I have always enjoyed it and I am a very good prechool teacher! We have a new Director at the center I work at and also, the town I live in is VERY closed minded....they dont take to anyone who is black, gay or god forbid....not christians!!!! I have seen some awful prejudice here in this little town geared towards gay people and blacks...it breaks my heart!Anyways,I was handed a booklet of new rules....which states "all staff members must be a professing christian and attend a church of organized worship!" I cannot beleive this crap! I of course dont go o church, which they know that....but now to make it a rule to work there? I am one of the nicest and most loving teachers there...and I am not a christian! The Director is a christian and now I am seeing she is hiring all these young christian girls to put in our classrooms! WTF? Anyways,I am tired of this crap...I am a witch and a pagan...I am very happy and content with who I am ...I love the kids and am good at teaching, but looks like i will hunting for a new job soon. Our staff meeting is next week, going over the new rules.I WILL NOT be going to any christian church just to make them happy! A bit of vent this morning!

That is totally illegal. I suggest you file a complaint with the EEOC. Keep that booklet at hand as it is the major proof for that. That lady can get it BIG time.

Here's the link for the EEOC:

I was thinking the same thing....how can they do away with me for not being christian?

They cant do that . by all means get anew job and a lawyer as well . Being a cristion has nothing to do with how you do your job. Contact the laber board.

Yikes! This does sound sort of like a violation of your rights, I do not know.
Vent away:) I know I would!!

Please TELL ME WHERE THIS IS AT!!! I would spread the word to every news station and newspaper.. Have the booklet and copy it give it to the papers and the news stations!!!! I'm serious.. They can't discriminate against you for not being christian especially in public schools.

Yes, if it's a private school, then they have the right to restrict their employees, I believe. I went to a private school as a child and my mom wanted to recommend one of her friends for a teaching position there, but was told that they only hired teachers from their church. It was still a good school, but I think they have those rights being a private insitution.

No they do not! You cannot bar anyone from a job for their religion, race, or age. There are many other reasons but those are the main ones.

If it's a private school (i.e. religious) they absolutely can! Catholic/Xtian/Jewish preschools do it every day.

This is pretty a misunderstood topic. My advice... read the constitutions relating to you (federal, state, county, local), and either figure it out, or ask someone exactly what a constitution is. They are not there to tell us what our rights are. They are not there to 'protect' us. In the case of the US, they are the contracts enacted to give a group the right to govern. Before a 'new' town, or county, etc comes about, the folks in the regioin (or their representative) create a constitution, and the govt agrees to it. And in many cases between individuals and either another person, or non-govt entity, to uphold the rights of one, means stepping on the rights of the other. It is perfectly legal for a person to discriminate over religion, and the ironic thing is that for all of the screaming of discrimination by pagans, they are perhas some of the worst personal discriminators. How many posts on this forum (I dont know, as I have not checked) are anit-christian? Or spreading the same old rhetoric about how the Christians forced religion, and killed pagans, etc... How exactly is this different than when pagans did the same to pagans, or to Christians?

Sorry, I kinda went off topic on a rant... not directed at anyone, just a pet-peave that leaks out sometimes.

Hrafnbjorn

That kind of response is reactionary. Who can say what the face of any major pagan religion would be if we were one of the big 3....but we are not and have been and are (obviously not being burned) still being descriminated against. Can you honestly blame anyone here for feeling a bit miffed by Organized Religion let alone one in particular? I mean....really?
