PaganSpace.net The Social Network for the Occult Community

As some of you already know, I am the head of Tribe of the Crow and Stag. This is a shamanic wiccan group with a very strong lean toward the masculine aspects of pagan spirituality. Over the past few years, however, I have been searching on my own for any male-oriented pagan spiritual groups that I can learn from and I have come up empty-handed. There are gay male groups, which I personally find to be repulsive. Being a gay man myself, I grow weary of gay guys who refer to themselves as "faeries" or "queer". That irks me and, in my opinion, it sets the gay rights movement back. So the gay groups are out. Non-sexually-oriented groups, like Knights of Herne, are often lacking in spirituality (at least to my liking) and seem to be more focused on SCA-like activities. Don't get me wrong, they are nice guys, but not the spiritually-focused group that I am looking for.

So the question is, are there any male pagan spiritual paths out there that are not froofy gays or attempts to re-enact the days of Camelot? This world seems severely lacking in "Male Mysteries" and I'm getting a little discouraged.

That's all. Thanks for your time.

ps. PLEASE do not mention the Minoan Brotherhood. Thank you.

Hey Robert. Are you looking for an actual Group that meets up? If so Try Witchvox, you can find just about any group there. If you lived here In Arizona, I would Invite you to one of my meet ups. The wolf pack is not geared toward any sexual preference, we kind of have a nice balance.

And If you can not find one, Why not start one? I understand your frustration, but I love the group I am apart of, I think of them as the closest of brothers and sisters, based all upon a spiritual manner. It has fulfilled a spiritual need I didn't know I even had, being a pater of a Coven for over 7yrs, It was a move and change that has almost completed my life. So that may be a rout you might have to go..

Good Hunting Brother..

Hey thanks for the invite. Too bad I live about 3000 miles from you, otherwise Id pop in someday after work...lol

As for the rest of it, my current group is both male and female and my previous group was mixed, with a VERY strong slant toward the feminine. I really am looking for more of a teacher or group that is exclusively male. I want to learn from a guy and see a man's perspective on the God and I know there is so much more to tap into in pagan spirituality than what we've tapped into so far. On my own Ive managed to come up with some good stuff and make up a bunch more, but I just feel like there has to be more. Maybe Im wrong.

Goddess and God do have their place together, but, in my experience, "the God" is a bit weakened, which in turn gives us guys two choices: play Rennaissance Faire or throw pixie dust all over the place. Ick. No thanks.

LoL, Pixie Dust. You know What,I think that most of us Guys Do need more to do with God, then with Goddess, And I too have been working on such things. Kind of trying to step out of the box a bit, and go with what I know of my Father.

My father, was Protector, Hunter, Warrior, Lover to my Mother, A father to us Boys, And the Law. I'm not saying Mom wasn't the law, there where things we would get away with that we couldn't have with Dad. I have always believed Paganism to be an ever evolving religion, because we have lost so much information to our original roots. All we do have is what little information does exist. I try to be all of that to my kids, but I also try to hear them out as well, which is something my father did not do. So, I have made some modifications to my parenting, to better fit this world in which I live.

I will tell you what, If you start a group here, I will join, and I will offer what ever I can to it. Maybe we can find a better Spiritual realm to where guys can get into contact with the "god head" and become better Men. So let me know what you need from me, And I will gladly help.

Ben

lol....I agree though...the part of male mysteries is definately underplayed. Perhaps starting a group with the male members of your existing circle and advertising on here or witch vox or whatever that you would like to start a male pagan fellowship might not be a bad idea.
I have often b*tched in my early days that I wanted to find a master who had any idea of anything...someone who can show me so I didn't feel like I was wandering in the dark...all I ever heard in response is when the student is ready the master will appear. It's true though, if you want change; be the change.

Asatru and Celtic Reconstructionism, as well as the OTO, are like 90% guys.

I wonder.... personally Im more of a sit-in-the-woods-and-drum-to-honor-the-spirits kind of guy, but Im also intrigued by the thoughts of "male mysteries" and what that really means. Perhaps it's because I have no real male role models, and my family is pretty much all female, which is odd, but I dont know how well I would mesh with a more ceremonial magickal/religious group. I have no idea what "OTO' means, so I will google it and check it out. As for celtic Reconstructionism, I will troll that a bit too and see if it's what I am looking for.

Thanks for the advice my friends. Maybe I'll take the advice of Drum and start my own group. At least then I get to make up the mysteries...lol

Oriente Templis Ordo
or Ordo Templis Oriente
I forget what the order is.

it was a group Crowley was in. means something like 'order of the eastern temple'

if I remember correctly its one of those groups that tries to mix western ceremonial magic and eastern mysticism together.

I am trying to think of what mysteries men have. I have spent so much time making my life simple as I can being married with kids. What drive us to do what we do? Is it our Hero's? Is it our Family's? Is it the drive for More Toy's?

You know what I like to do. Every now and then, I go into my Son's room, and Read or Play car with him. So I think one of my Mysteries is, That I still want to be playful.

When I lived in Ft. Lauderdale, FL I helped found a group dedicated to the male mysteries called the Order of the Sons of the Merlin. We worked with a great book by R.J. Stewart entitled, appropriately enough, "Celebrating the Male Mysteries". The group is still active, and includes gays, straights, and those following almost any Pagan path imaginable (there are some women involved as well, both to lend support and to express interest in an often-ignored aspect of modern Paganism).
I miss my brothers, but still stay in contact...
