PaganSpace.net The Social Network for the Occult Community

Ok, here goes. I have asked a few people I know and I get different opinions which are good for me to learn, but I'm pretty sure I've never asked the people here on paganspace about this. Some people think that a circle must be cast every time magick is done and some people don't. As I value your opinions, I thought I'd go ahead and ask. It has been a long time since I've done any kind of circle conjuring and I am learning how to do it all over again. I never really mastered this but would like to. I welcome opinions from everyone who wishes to add. Thank you and have a nice day. P.s. I welcome opinions form wiccans and non wiccan alike so it's cool either way. Me personally, I am not strictly wiccan but do consider myself a witch. Some people might not think so, but definitely. Which is something else altogether .

Interesting topic! I'm not Wiccan, but I am a witch (like you said you are!). Personally, I don't always cast a circle, but it depends on the magic. For more ceremonial/ritual magic, I cast one; for something quick and simple, I don't bother. Although, since I'm something of a kitchen witch, my practice tends to be very informal. It all depends on the person I suppose.

Thanks for posting this, it's a very good question!

Thanks for talking to me, It's very cool when I can talk to real people... Bless you. I've been isolated for so long it's hard sometimes, but I've talked to so many nice people here.

I consider myself Wiccan and do not cast a circle when I do magick. It is actually quite rare these days for me to cast a circle. Most often I will create sacred space with my drum or cleanse an area with my rattle or some smoldering herbs, but otherwise the hardcore circle and quarters are reserved for important ceremonies, such as initiations.

I do not personally feel it is necessary to go through the whole circle structure prior to magick, as this puts your magick into the realm of Ceremonial. It also limits you in some ways. Most magicks, in my experience, are done in the moment or while going about daily tasks, etc. It's not always practical to put up a circle, call quarters, what-have-you; although there are ways of doing this easily, in your mind, etc.

So basically i didn't answer your questions and I am absolutely no help at all. lol

I totally agree, Robert! That is how I do my most effective magick. I, too, consider myself Wiccan, though it is probably my own form. I actually don't cast a circle that often, except at formal rituals where magick may or may not be done.

As it is for everyone, I do things differently. sometimes a Circle, maybe a square and on occasion I have used a triangle. It depends on what I am doing.

What are you looking for? Spell casting or conjur?

No. I really do use odd shapes depending on what I'm doing.

Hyperspacial geometries are part of the magical process -
The Eye in the Triangle
The Four Square
The Faery Circle
The Pentagram
The Septagram
The Heptagram
All of the Platonic solids
The infinite double helix
These are all very important sacred geometries

yeh, I knew people did different geometric patterns. But I thought she was just being cute. ;p

I do remember one thing I read in Crowley's works.
"You Evoke into a triangle, You Invoke into a circle."
