PaganSpace.net The Social Network for the Occult Community

Hello (Hola)-
I have an opinion that I'd like to see how others feel about;
(Granted, I will not doubt that it has already been stated)
Firstly, I appologise for my spelling, and secondly I appologise IF this offends any one. (I don't appologise for my opinion, I only feel sorry that someone would find it offensive).
I came up (and by "came up" I only mean that as far as I know, this is an original thought in which no one placed in my mind with their own opinions. I'm quite confident that I am far from the first person to come up with this theory.....) with this theory, that all forms of magick, and mysticism, are in fact the same. Witchraft, Druidism, Demonology, Necromancy, Enochian, Shamanism, Voodoo, Santeria, and countless, litrely, countless, more.....
They are all part of a phenomena, that many call magick. They all are used to attain a certain goal, be it self impowerment, self enlightenment, healing, destruction, or simple entertainment. They are all different means to accomplishe a specific goal.
In addition to these "Styles", we have the laws that follow, one example is karma.
(I know I'm oversimplifying it, but please bear with me)
Many people are born with "talents", such as empathy, and clairevoyance; others need to work at it. But in the end we end up with a "Skill". A "Skill" which is used through the manipulation of certain energies. Now, with the aid, of certain Deities, and other spirits, we attain assistance in our goal to manipulate the energies. My point is that we don't NEED the Deities, in order to accomplish our goals....

I disagree. It's not all 'magick' in fact Aleister Crowley invented the word 'magick' with a K emphasized. His idea of magick was more of it being a science. That you can prove the experience, that there is a method of acheiving results in magick. Enochian magick was channeled supposedly the secret angelic languages and revelations....a lot of magick to me has been invented. Some of it seems for vanity, pleasure, fun, to fill the emptiness. Everyone has a skill, not necessarily involving this idea of magic...some call it 'psi' for empathy and clairvoyance. It is really in the eye of the beholder. But then again, there are also paths that have existed longer than others. Native American Shamanism is quite different than the lovey dovey New Age Shamanism. And not everyone who practices magick believes in using Deities to accomplish goals. That's a fundamental point I think you missed. No, we don't need the Deities. And not everyone says you do...I mean Wicca has a lot to do with the God and Goddess....to me this seems similar to Christianity only sprinkled with other beliefs, superstitions, dogma, and a female counterpart....to the masculine God we're all sick of. And also 'energy' is loosely defined. I've been thinking a lot on how to define these energies....and I like the idea that all matter is conscious like animism. That perhaps perception makes it subjective.

I my opinion, those that spell it 'Magic(k)'...aren't.

Are you, like me, amused by the spelling to "separate" the difference, SIN?

I'm often amused here. :-)

Do you ever feel like you are in 1950 waiving signs, shouting:
Segregation never, integration now!

{shrugs, maybe it's just me}

Frickin' dualistic thought!
{throws hands in the air}

This thread and many many others give me giggle fits, and cause me to wonder why James Randi still has his million dollars.

The difference in spelling amuses me too. As an etymology nut I can't help but giggle.

I believe the addition of a "k" to the word magic was first implemented to discern it from illusionary magic done by commonly known entertainers of an earlier period. I would imagine in a community of like-minded individuals such as this, either spelling would be interpreted correctly for what it is.
