Ok heres the deal-io. My mom bless her heart is suffering from menopause. Those who have experienced it know how it goes. Night sweats, hot flashes, mood swings the whole thing. She doesnt sleep well and because of her mood swings and lack of sleep my sister and I are suffering to. If anyone has any herbal or magickal things I can do to help her please, please let me know. Thanks to all and Blesed Be my friend.
Thank you for your help. Too bad there isnt much else I can do around the house. I already do all the cleaning, cooking and laundry as well as pretty much everything else.
There are definitely herbal supplements that help with the night-sweating and hot flushes. i think it's called black Cohosh oe something like that but get proper advice from a local store. Essential oils might be helpful for her moods - try balancing oild like geranium during the day and something relaxing like vertivert at night.
Here's a great web site that has all the herbal recommendations for menopause... You don't have to buy from them, but the site has a lot of great information on herbal remedies..
Personally I've used Valerine St. John's Wort for mood swings... Saw Palmetto, Black Cohosh, Soy are other biggies for menopause...
Now, just because it's a herbal replacement DOES NOT mean it's right for everyone.... Always do RESEARCH before taking anything, and if on any type of doctor prescribed medications always contact your doctor first.
IF her hormones are TOO out of balance, her doctor might suggest medication...I'm NOT suggesting HRT...but there ARE alternatives too.Estroven, otc, can help...tell her to limit caffeine, avoid white flour products, go to whole grain foods, and take in soy if she can stand it. LOL! (I know...doesn't sound pleasant, does it? LOL!)
The OBVIOUS thing is to suggest she contact her doctor...herbal and natural things are wonderful, but sometimes they are not enough or we don't know how to use them efficiently enough to get maximum effect.
Hope this helps!

I had a complete hyst at 24, and have been taking HRT for what feels like a zillion years... They are very expensive, so I tried the herbal way for a bit.. For me it did not work, but again this is just me...
Again, I totally agree with d'Argstar, contact her doctor before taking anything... Herbs can have just as man side effects as doc prescribed medications..
YES!!! This is the best response here!!!
Menopause is such a life change!!! But it's just like with birth, if you simply see it as something thats "Happening to you" rather then embracing the power that this change will unleash, you are bound to "suffer"
Yes, there are herbal aids, your mother could look at getting a progesterone cream Emerita brand is the brand my mother used with good outcomes, or look into evening primrose gel caps. Also a Red Rasberry leaf tea, & MOST importantly, as infussion of oatstraw & nettles. This is very earthy tasting, but all womens issuse can be helped by taking oatstraw & nettles!!! Steep it overnight to get it good & earthy. Now getting nettles can br tricky. If you can find them growing somewhere, & harvest your own all the better, but you'll want to wear gloves, (they don't call em Stinging Nettles for nothin!) or check you'r local natural food store, or ask about a local herbalist.
Also, attitude is everything!!! As with anything in life, if you feel you are suffering you will suffer, if you are excited about the change, it will be better. Talk with your mother about her birth stories, how were those years for her, how did she get through the contractions? maybe she could begin to see hot flashes & mood swing as contraction. Really it's very much like labor, she's birthing herself into a new stage of life!
Good luck with this! & do your best to help your mother declare pease with her body! & embrace the power that is woman!!!
I have had this and it is a pain to deal with. There are some things you can do. I book that helped me was from Susun Weed. It was all about menopause and it was a tremendous help. I would though consult with a medical doc or a master herbalist before starting any treatments as if she is on medication those could mess up the dose or have a bad reaction to it. blessings
