PaganSpace.net The Social Network for the Occult Community

As most of you on PS know I work with kids. Tuesdays are heavy days with extra children visiting teachers and workers picking up thiers assingments. On Tuesdays the children are in the playroom watching tv, playing with various toys, waiting for thier teacher or therapist and hanging up coats.

As usualy Dora was wafting through the house. UNTIL.......'the bad witch captured someone and put them in a cage.. They couldn't be freed of course until the bad witch promised never to be bad again."

Yeah I put everything on hold. Told my daughter to find me a contact number and turned it into a freedom of spech, freedom of religion consumerism project. NickJr. was contacted and put on speaker. As I was explaining the problem to the person on the phone one of the children pipped up and yelled Tia's not bad You are! hehe he.

The call was completly disregaurded. The woman thought that it was shameful that I would call in with such a complaint about a show that was doing so much for , get this, INTEGRATION!!!!

Making a long story short the daycare has voted and we are officially blocking Nick Jr. from our TV.

It's a small thing. It made me feel better.

Rant over. Rational thought beginning to resume. What do you folks think? Shouldn't Nick put up a real show about our community? Wizards of Waverly place IMO just isn't cutting it.

Unreal when the children are exposed to such nonsense... I raised two wonderful Pagan daughters and would have been outraged had my grandchildren seen this type on nonsense.. you need to call these people back and state you case again....INTEGRATION? what does that have to do with witches gettings portrayed in a bad light .... Ludacris if you ask me

I hate Viacom. I believe they're the ones getting all the good videos removed from you tube. Not like those douches ever show them..... :-\

The bad witch had to stop being bad (I mean, she DID put someone into a cage, didn't she?) but they didn't say she had to stop being a witch, did they? She just was supposed to be a good witch, right?

I agree with you in principal though.

I agree with you.

It's a good idea to enlighten the network about the problem though. I babysit, so I watch Dora everyday and a lot of the episodes feature witches, or in today's episode a wizard, as antagonists.

I think you did a good thing by calling them..what they showed was completely un-called for.

Good for you girl ~!~! that kind of thing always irritates the crap out of me... I've done the same thing with worse results... good ban I think, I never liked dora the explorer anyhow, I always found dora kind of creepy....

What irritated me the most is that witches were once again portrayed as one that is by nature bad and that we must be shown the light.

Small minds mean ignorance... now what they did by disregarding your complaint was stupidity.... and ignorance can be overcome.... jmo.

When it comes to that episode (which my daughter has on DVD) yup the witch was being bad (at least I think putting people in cages is bad)... just like Swiper the Fox can be bad... he can also be good at times. I point out to my children that there are good and bad people every where of all types.

There are other episodes that the witch does good as well.

As for a show about our community - well - I know my life wouldn't pick up ratings... real witch's, pagan's, etc lives aren't all that exciting.

Wow that was like a waste of time. Who gets to say if witches have a bad rep or not? if i recall from many fairy tales portray the witch as a bad character. plus, i can say not all witches irl are Wiccan or "good" either. You know maybe you should waste more time complaining about fairy tale portrayals of witches, or Hollywood portrayals of witches and how "inaccurate" they are, or how about every kid's movie that mentions a witch in a negative way?

Interesting. hmmm. Who gets to say if witches are bad? Well, I do. I don't appreciate that my faith, even in characterization, being portrayed as 'naturally bad'. I get upset that the witch in this story had to promise to be 'good'. I am not saying that putting people in cages is good. What upset me was it was a witch that did it.

Complaining about fairy tales. Let's light the candles and pull out the board. Contacting the authors of those stories, the dead, is going to take a long time.

When it comes to children...............nothing is a waste of time. If we start education with children the future will be a little easier. I can reach the ones that come here. But, how many children watch Dora? And they are given the impression that witches are naturally bad.

My time is precious to because there isn't enough of it. When I stop the winds in my house to address something, to me, it is important.

do you have children?

But the witch portrayed in the story was most likely not a Wiccan. I'm assuming you're a Wiccan here, then how can you say anything that proclaims the title 'witch' is somehow a portrayal of your faith? if i recall witch is a huge broad term that can apply to various religious practitioners and non-religious practitioners. And not every one who is a witch is good or a Wiccan. Witches in various mythologies aren't exactly said to be good guys you know? If i recall they were greatly feared in Mesopotamia. I'm not sure why you're so worried about a fictional kids show. And i am surprised that a witch would be so 'Politically Correct' about those things considering the history of the word and its broad applications.
