I have been thinking about orchids often recently for no particularly reason. And tonight I went to hear a sermon my friend gave at an interfaith church. At the end of the service one lady performed reiki on me and afterward she asked me if Orchids meant anything to me because all she could see is arms full of orchids around me. So my question is what could orchids symbolize besides all the beauty refinement stuff I already looked up?
I have had a really rough and stressful 2 weeks so the orchids have to mean more than beauty in my opinion. My friend said it represented death to her. When I think of orchids I think about how hard they are to keep alive and how fussy and fragile they are. So I don't know whats your opinion?

This is an interesting statement...
When working with someone, I listen to their words. Their words are far more important than mine. What does your statement mean in relation to your life and the stress you are experiencing? Fussy? Fragile? We all are 'fussy' and 'fragile' at different times in life and we all need special care.
Permalink Reply by Althea on May 14, 2012 at 6:37pm My father-in-law is in the hospital, he had a hip surgery done and afterward there were complications. His heart arrested and they worked on him for 20 minutes. He has been heavily sedated and out for 4 days now. They don't know how much if any brain damage he received. So that has been very stressful for me, taking care of my brother-in-laws and such. Plus financial issues. My own family drama. And I am just getting over being sick. So I would say fragile I guess.
Permalink Reply by Heather Sires on May 14, 2012 at 4:12pm Orchids are actually quite hardy. You water them from every two days to once a week (depending on the species), and they're happy. The problem is people have is pots that don't allow them to breathe, use the wrong potting medium, and water them too frequently. My practice is when I don't remember when I'd watered one of my orchids, I let it go a few more days.
So, on that note, you talk about having a rough and stressful time. Orchids can go through a lot of stress and still blossom. Maybe the stress you've been having will help something in your life become more fruitful.

That made me smile and gave me a bit of hope. Thank you.
However, I did think that some species of Orchids are difficult to keep, so that's why I thought fragile and fussy, maybe I am wrong though...
Permalink Reply by Heather Sires on May 14, 2012 at 7:16pm I got a Paph over the winter at an orchid show. They're supposed to be really hard to take care of. With orchids, as long as you get used to the rhythm of the specific plant, they will live through a lot. I'm glad I was able to help.

Permalink Reply by Sherrie on May 14, 2012 at 10:49pm Well, I think that is interesting about the orchid representing death to your friend. But maybe that is not always a bad thing since you said you have had such a stressful last 2 weeks. In the Tarot, Death can sometimes symbolize not a physical death, but a psychological death. And can make way for new spiritual growth, letting go of past behaviors and making way for a change that is coming.
So, maybe you can just sit back and embrace your orchids, and know there is a change about to take place.
Many blessings to you !
