PaganSpace.net The Social Network for the Occult Community

Hi, My name is Josh. I am really new to paganism. I'm currently reading a book called "Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner" and found it relatively interesting. I don't really know anyone who has been involved in the religion for very long. I think a lot of the ideas of paganism are very interesting. But, what I'm searching for is for a few people to help me legitimize paganism. I wouldn't say that I am skeptic. Just don't really have any reason to believe in magic, yet. I believe in the possibility of a lot of things that some people would say that don't exist. E.g. aliens, ghosts, shamans, parallel universes and such. Anyway, just looking for just a shred of proof from someone's personal experience. If I choose to continue to follow the road of paganism, I would have my own but right now I have none.

There ya go Josh, front page. Have fun reading.
I'm not exactly sure what the difference is but anyway, I can check out that other page. but really, I was looking for someone that I could ask them questions about their experiences as well.
anything is good. I'm not really picky. In the book, the author claimed that he could pay his phone bill by attracting to the money to him through the use of magic. I guess something similar or just some kind of experience where you felt like magic was actually working beyond a doubt.
Those are some similar type experiences to my example but maybe not quite what I'm looking for. I'm glad you shared them though.

Most call that the law of attraction Josh, and yes it works.

Ya know I have been sitting here for sometime trying to figure out how to explain to you what you wish to know. But with all the idea's I come up with, for someone just starting out, all I can say. This is a very empowering path. It will let you take control of your life in every aspect. Keep reading, you will be wonderfully surprised.

Yeah, I think his experience had some law of attraction themes but the book was written in the early 90s so he might not have been able to label it that. Thanks for your help.

There are some branches of "paganism" that are not magical at all, but spiritually devotional.  My spiritual practice fills a psychological need for me, and helps me feel more connected to the natural order, the community around me, my ancestors, and human nature.  That's been my experience.  I cannot legitimize or prove that my specific religion under the "pagan" umbrella term would work for you.  Only you can make that determination for yourself, and practice what you choose to.

Just because I (sometimes hesitantly) identify with being pagan, doesn't mean that I have to practice or believe in magic, astral travel, aliens, or anything of the like.  Not all pagan practices or religions are the same, or even remotely similar in some cases.

Well, I am not Wiccan, but I am a witch. To some of your question I probably have some answers. I not only cast spells, that work. But I also have personal experiences with Gods themselves (the specific two that I work with). I don't have an alien or shaman stories, but I have had some very interesting (and at the time pretty damn scary) counters with not only spirits/ghosts but going beyond the veil.

So, just send me a personal message if you like, or I can write it all out here (I don't mind). But there is so much of it, I'm not going to just type a list all at once, I'de be sitting here for hours. So, ask what of those things you want to hear about and I will happily share a pocket full of the spiritual and magical occurrences in my life.

cool, I sent you a friend request so I can send you a private message, some of those experiences may be better to share in private.

Hello josh, I hate to sound like a text book but the answers you seek are in you. You have probally experinced it yourself before not realizing it. Have you ever been in a sitiuation where you needed the outcome to favor you and you visulized it in your minds eye then it came out the way you wanted it? Some would consider that magick. You /everyone has that ability it's wheither they choose to acknowlage it. The objects we use in spell casting are tools. Focal points if you must sure some draw out the pentatical light the candels call on the deties these are all very important and powerfull steps and tools in doing spells and magickal work these are the things in which prepair us or draw and emcompass the energy that is needed. The most important thing is the energy and intent in which you put into it. You don't have to speak in acient toungs unless that helps you or read from a book of spells to do it successfully you can do it any way you feel comfortable. Sure you should write down the things that come to you and go over it once or twice before you cast it just so you are not stumbling but mostly as I do it just let it come from what you are feeling or your own thoughts. Results will come just be sure to give thanks for the gifts you have recived. Then you will have answered your own question.

thanks, I realize that it may take some time for me to try out some of the spells. do you think the alter is completely necessary to get started? or is it a lot harder without one?
Welcome to Paganspace, I hope your experience so far has been positive. Go to my profile, and read some of the discussion threads that I have started. Some of it is really terrifying stuff, some of it is really cool, and potentially useful for a number of applications, that the muggles (lol) would never think of.
