Pagan Musicians - who do you know of that you haven't heard of others talking about before?ite

The two most recent finds for me were SJ Tucker and Laura Powers.

Not just the folks you enjoy, but people who actually have pagan-related music and lyrics. Laura Powers talks about the Goddess in several of her songs, and SJ Tucker does as well.

So I'm *always* looking for pagan artists to support (by buying their CDs) - who do you know of that you think is good? This way we can all expand our collections :)

Please include websites for the artist if you have them!

Late last night you cried
And I couldn't come to you
But on the other side
You and I, inseparable, went walking

This is a verse from the song Dover by the Bangles. It's always made me wonder??

Not Contemporary Pagan music but still very pagan

Fairport Convention : Tam Lin Lyrics

I forbid you maidens all that wear gold in your hair
To travel to Carterhaugh for young Tam Lin is there
None that go by Carterhaugh but they leave him a pledge
Either their mantles of green or else their maidenhead
Janet tied her kirtle green a bit above her knee
And she's gone to Carterhaugh as fast as go can she
She'd not pulled a double rose, a rose but only two
When up there came young Tam Lin, says "Lady, pull no more"
"And why come you to Carterhaugh without command from me?"
"I'll come and go", young Janet said, "and ask no leave of thee"

Janet tied her kirtle green a bit above her knee
And she's gone to her father as fast as go can she
Well, up then spoke her father dear and he spoke meek and mild
"Oh, and alas, Janet," he said, "I think you go with child"
"Well, if that be so," Janet said, "myself shall bear the blame
There's not a knight in all your hall shall get the baby's name”
For if my love were an earthly knight as he is an elfin grey
I'd not change my own true love for any knight you have"

Janet tied her kirtle green a bit above her knee
And she's gone to Carterhaugh as fast as go can she
"Oh, tell to me, Tam Lin," she said, "why came you here to dwell?"
"The Queen of Faeries caught me when from my horse I fell
And at the end of seven years she pays a tithe to Hell
I so fair and full of flesh and feared it be myself
But tonight is Hallowe'en and the faerie folk ride
Those that would their true love win at Miles Cross they must buy
First let past the horses black and then let past the brown
Quickly run to the white steed and pull the rider down
For I'll ride on the white steed, the nearest to the town
For I was an earthly knight, they give me that renown
Oh, they will turn me in your arms to a newt or a snake
But hold me tight and fear not, I am your baby's father
And they will turn me in your arms into a lion bold
But hold me tight and fear not and you will love your child
And they will turn me in your arms into a naked knight
But cloak me in your mantle and keep me out of sight"

In the middle of the night she heard the bridle ring
She heeded what he did say and young Tam Lin did win
Then up spoke the Faerie Queen, an angry queen was she
”Woe betide her ill-fought face, an ill death may she die”
"Oh, had I known, Tam Lin," she said, "what this night I did see
I'd have looked him in the eyes and turned him to a tree”

In The Court Of The Crimson King - King Crimson

The rusted chains of prison moons
Are shattered by the sun
I walk a road horizons change
The tournament's begun
The purple piper plays his tune
The choir softly sing
Three lullabies in ancient tongue
For the court of the Crimson King
The keeper of the city keys
Puts shutters on the dreams
I wait outside the pilgrims door
With insufficiant schemes
The black queen chants the funeral march
The cracked brass bell will ring
To summon back the fire witch
To the court of the Crimson King
The gardener plants an evergreen
Whilst trampling on a flower
I chased the wind of a prism ship
To taste the sweet and sour
The pattern juggler lifts his hand
The orchestra begin
I slowly turn the grinding wheel
In the court of the Crimson King
On soft grey mornings widows cry
The wise men share a joke
I run to grasp divining signs
To satisfy the hoax
The yellow jester does not play
But gently pulls the strings
And smiles as the puppets dance
In the court of the Crimson King

Well theres a "viking metal" band called Enslaved i like quite a bit, most of their songs are written around norse mythology and throughout their carreer they have changed quite a bit musically, also the band Bathory in its later years leaned more towards a pagan/viking theme but both of these bands may not be up your alley, probaly even further removed from what i think you may like would be the band Nile which is an extreme metal band whose albums could almost be considered a course in egyptian mythology, alongside the lyrics in the cover you get some of the writers research notes, dudes seriously hooked on egypt.

Gabriel, I'd be very interested in the band Nile..... Do you have a link you could point me to? My patron God/Goddess are Egyptian.... thanks Ja'niece

Well if you click on my profile icon thingy, you can scroll down my little play list to songs 87,88,and 89 which are the three songs by nile that i just added for you, IF you like it i think they have a my space page,if not you can find 'em on youtube, but i gotta warn you theyre extreme metal and its an aqquired taste, you can also find lyrics for the songs at www.darklyrics.com, which if you do'nt like the music i'd still check out just so you can get a idea of what this dude puts into his songs

Gabriel, the music reminds me of MTV’s HeadBanger’s Ball when I use to watch it on Friday and Saturday nights. Unfortunately I couldn’t understand what the artist trying to say…. *LOL* Liked the music otherwise. Thanks for the link for the lyrics... they stand alone much better as poetry or prayers to a Deity
