I have no problem with people thinking I'm a tree-hugging, Nature-worshipping, hippie in a sex cult who dances around trees. LOL! In fact, I'd take that as a compliment. =D
Well apparently all Wikkaz are really emo 15 year old bisexual teenage girls. For the rest of us, the hippie/devil-worshipping/nature-hugger things seems to be the norm.
Most commonly, they first ask if I am a devil-worshiper. Once I clear that up, they then say "Oh, so you have no god/faith/belief/etc."
How I respond to these statements depends really on how much I like the person making the ignorant assumptions and how offensive I feel like being (mostly I behave).
I see that a lot of people see it that way. I have even met Wiccans who don't see a difference. ***sigh***...I should just make a pamphlet or something so I don't have to answer questions anymore...teehee
When I tell someone I'm Pagan and a witch, they assume I'm Wiccan. I've just gotten to the point of saying "something like that". It's easier than explaining what I do and do not believe and the differences between my path and Wicca. Then other people assume that I mean I follow Native American beliefs and then again I say something like "they're somewhat related".
It's so hard for those of us who don't have a belief or spiritual system that fits into any one label that is recognized by the rest of society. So instead of having a lengthy discussion, I just say "something like that" and go about my business. No one usually cares enough to know the truth anyway. They just want the shortest, simplest answer to fit you into whatever preconceived mold they have.
