I'm an Education major and for one of my classes I am doing a project on the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools. I was wondering if you all could give me your opinions on the subject. Do you think it should be said daily in the schools? Should it be made mandatory? Give me your thoughts!
Here is my opinion, I think schools have gone downhill since we started getting all politically correct. Yes I think every child should stand for the pledge, do they have to say it, no...but it should still be done. I also think they should bring prayer back, obviously you could not have it outloud because of the many diverse religions in schools, but why not a moment of silence for each child to give thanks to whatever god they chose? And heres the one that they'll tear me up over, bring back spanking in school! I bet if you had all of these things, and you eliminated the whole no child left behind bullshit, our kids might actually get a friggin education!!!!
Ohh Regan, You are a blessing to my heart. Yes, Bring back corporal punishment..... I think if the little bastard who cause so much drama in school knew that was coming back the drama would fucking well stop....Yep, I agree with you 100%
You might be the only one to agree! But at least I have someone on my side!!! My oldest is 15, the teacher called a few weeks ago to tell me that she had gotten mouthy in class, I had to get in my car, drive all the way to the school, get my daughter, find a private location, beat her ass, and then sent her back to class.....all this trouble could have been avoided if the teacher were allowed to do someting other than issue a detention!
I'd rather that they taught meditation, instead of bringing prayer back.
Teach kids how to calm down on purpose, and how to think. Teach them how to reason something out, and understand how/what they feel.
I think those skills would be more helpful than prayer. They were doing it locally with some kids in a school district, and the kids had fewer problems with anger/rage issues than normal, and were passing the skills on to their families. Imagine a 6 year old telling his mother "We need to take some deep breaths, and then talk about what's upsetting us calmly, mommy".
They were calling it "mindfulness training" - until some nutjobs decided the kids were being brainwashed into practicing witchcraft and devil worship with all that deep breathing.
As a Pagan Who Grew up Pagan. I have and will always say the Pledge due to the fact it is what has given me my Freedom of Religion. Some may think me a lunatic that I would not only defend this nation, but I would give my life for it. But I respect those who choose not to say the Pledge, because it is their right not to. That is one of their guaranteed Freedoms in this great country.
Then we have the argument of the fact it say Under God in the pledge. Since I believe in a form of Creation, as well as evolution. I can also stand behind that as well, because it does not state what god. Yes we all know it is the Christan god, But my freedom is to believe that it could mean my own god.
So my answer is yes, it should be said daily, and as it has always been those who choose not to say the pledge may. I just hope it is for a damn good reason. And that is my thoughts....
