Quaint, as in pleasantly old fashion in a nostalgic way...

I found a term I like to describe my flavor of Wicca. It's not quite a tradition, but more of a "life style" that is optional and could be applied to other kinds of Pagans.

If you are a "Quaint" Pagan, you strive to live sustainably with the earth. You are cautious about what technologies you use. You might avoid using disposable products. You avoid materialism in favor for "Living Simply". You might raise your own livestock or garden. You reduce, reuse, and recycle. You might make your own clothing. You might be a localavore, having a preference for locally grown and/or organic food. You might be into making most of your food from scratch.

As a Quaint Wiccan, I use cloth diapers, cloth pads, and use rags more than paper towels. I buy used clothes, raise my own chickens, and belong to a CSA. I make my own yogurt and make bread in my bread machine. I make my own baby foods. I do worm composting. I'm studying Kitchen witchery, and I have designed a wooden spoon to be my wand. I'm growing my own chamomile for tea.....

So, is this making sense?

It makes sense to me, and sounds like what I'm working toward, too.

I actually tried to find chamomile to grow, but the person at the garden shop looked at me like I was nuts. I may have to order a plant from online.

I found chamomile seeds at walmart...it can't be all that uncommon....

I like it! I particularly like that 'quaint' is an old-fashioned word that seems to have mostly gone out of use. (I like old - and odd - words!) It does however have several nuanced meanings - not all are positive:

(from: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/quaint )
1.Having old-fashioned charm. "It's a very quaint village with old-fashioned storefronts."
2.Strange or odd in an interesting, pleasing, or amusing way. "came forth a quaint and fearful sight" - Sir Walter Scott
3.Highly incongruous, inappropriate, or illogical; naive, unreasonable -- usually used ironically. "of a quaint sense of honesty" - Paul Engle
4.(obsolete) Characterized by cleverness or ingenuity; skillfully wrought or artfully contrived. "to show how quaint an orator you are" - Shakespeare
5.(obsolete) Overly discriminating or needlessly meticulous; fastidious. "being too quaint and finical in his expression" - Roger L'Estrange

I see you mean it in the definition #1 sense - although #2 and #4 also work for me! (#3 and #5 - not so much!)

Anyhow - best of luck! Sounds like you are on an interesting and fulfilling path!

PS to SalixKat - chamomile is fairly easy to grow from seed!

That's what I'd prefer, actually...but I haven't even found seeds yet.

Thanks! Now I just have to see if they'll ship to me. :-)

I'm not sure what the laws are about shipping seeds overseas.

I like it! I'm not Wiccan, but can I be a quaint witch? :) I wish I could, actually-- but since I still live with my (Christian) family, I can't exactly.... :P

I like your choice of words though. It appeals to me for sure!

Sure! Since you live with your non-which family, I think you can still be quaint. I think learning to cook from scratch would be an easy place to start.... Blessings and Good Luck!

My altar just looks like some pretty things set on top of a bookshelf. They have no idea!

Sounds like you are in the same situation as me - sucks when you can't be as "free" with it as you want!

Ok. I can be "Quaint." I am a Quaint Eclectically Spiritual Person.
