Quaint, as in pleasantly old fashion in a nostalgic way...

I found a term I like to describe my flavor of Wicca. It's not quite a tradition, but more of a "life style" that is optional and could be applied to other kinds of Pagans.

If you are a "Quaint" Pagan, you strive to live sustainably with the earth. You are cautious about what technologies you use. You might avoid using disposable products. You avoid materialism in favor for "Living Simply". You might raise your own livestock or garden. You reduce, reuse, and recycle. You might make your own clothing. You might be a localavore, having a preference for locally grown and/or organic food. You might be into making most of your food from scratch.

As a Quaint Wiccan, I use cloth diapers, cloth pads, and use rags more than paper towels. I buy used clothes, raise my own chickens, and belong to a CSA. I make my own yogurt and make bread in my bread machine. I make my own baby foods. I do worm composting. I'm studying Kitchen witchery, and I have designed a wooden spoon to be my wand. I'm growing my own chamomile for tea.....

So, is this making sense?

Ya... I know... it's a start right. To be honest, I have made bread with my hands, but I like being able to leave the house with bread baking in the machine.

Which brings me to an important point. I think an important rule in Quaint Paganism is to not be too judgmental... Quaintness is journey with a process and goals. We are not all going to be on the same quaint page, so to speak, but as long as we are working towards being quaint, that's the point. It's all in how you speak. I would have said.... "Have you tried making bread with your hands?" Instead of "What's wrong with your hands?" See the Difference?

"in a bread machine?"

I had the same thought. When I make my bread, I prefer doing it by hand. I gave my bread machine away, because I just didn't like the way bread came out. By this time next year, the big garden will be in and I'll be growing as much of my own food as I possibly can... herbs too, for both food and ritual, once I find good info sources for both.

It makes a great deal of sense. The eco-folk might call you "Green Wiccan". But your desire for simplicity begs the need for another title, and you may have hit it on the head :)

Yes, it's more than just being "Green". It's almost like the Quakers or Amish, but with a Pagan slant. I'm not to the point where we are replacing our cars with horses, but I could see some Quanit Pagans going that way in a few generations. Every Quaint choice we make is our own to make, and everyone's own decision should be based on their own situation and resources.

Ok, new question.....

So, now that I have this name for my flavor of Paganism..... what should I do now? Should I start a Quaint Pagan Group? Should I write and essay about it and have it published at witchvox? Should I start a Quaint Paganism blog? Where do you think I should go with this idea?
