Site Owners Spamming Members w/ Invites via Messaging & a few other things

Hi All,

I wish this was one of my more pleasant postings but it is not. I am quite fed up w/ site owners joining this site and then mass messaging invites to the members, via private messages, using the forums and by using the comment feature. This is prohibited and just yesterday I banned a member for this activity and I will continue to ban people who do this.

I have said this word tired, and quite honestly I'm fed up because I shouldn't even have to address this because it's common courtesy not to join a site, friend request a bunch of people and then attempt to pull members based off the hard work of others. When I created this site I never went onto anyones website and asked people to join this one; I linked to this site via my own website WitchesWay and my personal profile pages.

The members here did not join this site so they can be barraged with invites to other sites; if you want people to join your site then do some actual work and bring people to it.. The advertisers on this site pay for their exposure and it's not fair to them when people come onto here and freeload off of what others do the right way (ie: paying for their advertising). Want members? Then advertise your site like the respectable site owners do!

If you receive invites in your personal message box on this site (or in your comments) then please forward me the information, because from here on out if this takes place I will ban the person without warning. I tried to be nice about this but apparently nice is not working so well, so now I'm going to be an ass. I've never had a problem with people placing their site info onto their page or their blog but all the other things stated have and continue to be unacceptable..

Another issue, the events calendar is for actual events, I have been steadily deleting supposed event postings because they are not events. Again, this is misuse of the site and an attempt to get free exposure on the front page. So, if you have an event, which is a gathering of people on a specific date; in a location then please post it but if it's not an event then do not place it into the events announcements or it will be deleted and you may find yourself deleted as well.

Last issue, this is PaganSpace not Sexspace; I'm sure we all enjoy sex but this is not the place for that type of discussion/exchange (and no I'm not in the mood to split hairs about what constitutes sexual exchange etc., use your brain and I'm sure you can figure it out). Now, I'm not a prude by any stretch but just yesterday I deleted a group that had been formed on this site relating to nothing more than sex. The network is very strict about this type of thing and I'm not risking loosing my site so people can discuss their sexual fantasies. So, if you want to form a group or talk about your detailed sex life or fantasies then more power to you; go create a website, or find one for that type of activity and get with it but I'm not going to have that going on here! To the gods, I really can't believe I'm even having to state this...

I know none of this pertains to most of you, so I apologize for unloading this; as this is not directed at you but it is very much directed at those who are involved in these continual issues.

Much Love & Big Hugs!
Starr

Researching the matter at this time, due to reports... at this moment bits of evidence shows *yes* on the spamming, but still researching.

I do have to admit that I question how simple invitations are spamming anyone. It is so simple to click the delete button and keep on moving. It is more simple to do that than it is to write stop spamming me messages. I get anywhere between 500 to 1,000 messages a day because I administrate for so many site creators here on Ning, as well as running sites of my own, and I actually appreciate any invitations I receive. Even if it isn't a site to my liking or taste. Ning is about networking, and being a community of networks that sticks together and grows. Know what I mean? I'm not trying to offend anyone, or to be a jerk, but I am being logical. People on my sites have sent out invitations to join other sites from my sites and my one real reaction to that was to decide whether I wanted to join or not. Either way, I deleted the invitation in my box once my decision was made. Sorry if that seems like I am downing your reaction or something, but I am simply being honest. I value honesty above all. I am simply asking why a person would be offended by that.

You're not offending me at all :) We just don't agree on this that's all, and I appreciate your thoughts. There have been many that completely abuse the invite system and they join the site to do nothing more than harvest friends and then barrage them w/ invites to their Ning site. Also when I joined Ning 2 years ago it wasn't defined as it is now. It was a White Label system and we were not all interconnected etc like it is now.

I appreciate your honesty Chazz and I can see your point but we just view the issue differently.

Blessings to you & thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Starrfire,

I've not been present on the board, or anywhere for some time. I have recently returned here and this will be my first post on the board.

However, I had to stop in and contradict your statement about yourself. You are definately NOT an ass in my opinion. I read this in your opening comments.

You are an intelligent and hard-working person who deserves respect.

If people don't like the "rules" here, then leave. If not, then follow the "FEW" rules that there are! All people need to do is show some respect...

Take care,
Crystal Raven

I asked a member nicely to stop spamming me with invites right to sites and this is what he had his friend send me - I am so tired of spammers it's annoying (maybe you should do a binding spell for these spammers starrfire seriously I am not joking but I know it's probably not allowed)

This is what I got:

Maybe you can make up a bogus email account and start spamming the bejeebers out of that very deviant sender . . . ?

A potential message might say something like:
I used to think SPAM was something that grandmothers dug out of the can-cupboard and slopped onto a slice of bread. Then I met you: the epitome of SPAM you garbage-for-email-writer-you! Don't you dare consider this reply as spam YOU SILLY SLAM-BAM-NO-Thank-you-SPAMMER-YOU! Phllllllllllbbbbbbbbbbbbt.

P.S. I can tell from your style of writing that your eyes are too close together.

{Send it anytime you feel angry at something . . . spammers deserve to have such aggravation sent directly back to them; don't hang onto it. SEND IT BACK (by anonymous email account, no less}
