I was wondering if someone could help me interpret my dream. I don't remember all of it, but what I do remember is I was petting a rattle snake and all of the sudden it bit me on my right thigh and in a panic, I pulled it off my leg and looked in horror as I saw two bite marks. I went and told my parents what had happened and told them I needed to go to the hospital to be treated for snake bite and they just ignored me. I tell them again and they ignore me. I could feel my throat closing up and it was hard to swallow and then......I woke up.

In many native traditions, being eaten by an animal is a sign of that animal wanting to work with you, of it accepting you. You were not eaten, but a bite is significant. Look around for some material on snake power animals and see if any of the symbols mean anything in your life.

I've heard BOTH of these theories. One good site regarding this is http://www.sayahda.com/cyc1.html

It goes through most every animal and what it means when these animals become your totems or reach out to you for communication.

Thanks, everyone! I appreciate it.

I am less concerned about the snake...fear of death...fear of snakes....embraced by snake totem...whatever.
I am more curious why your parents didn't care. Perhaps it was good that the snake embraced you.
Or maybe you feel your parents don't care about you... too little to go on.

I think that part of the dream refers to my feelings of my parents not listening to anything I say. As for my own personal feelings towards snakes, I'm pretty neutral.

Snakes are seen by many as symbols of life, death and rebirth. To native americans the shedding of the snake's skin is associated with life and a new beginning.
People who's lifes are in turmoil, people who are dying, and those who have lost a loved one often dream of snakes, because snakes are a symbol of transformation.

Your parents ignoring you could suggest a feeling of lonesomeness, or abandonment.
you feeling as tho you couldn't breath, is interesting because most people would describe pain of some type but for you it was a feeling of panic or fear, maybe a metaphor for some part of your life?

Are you moving away from your parents, or taking a large step in life,
taking on responsibilitys that up till recently were taken care of by your family?

sorry, I really get into psychology,
this is all speculation, but I'm curious to know if any of this rings a bell.

The snake is often a symbol of transcendence or rebirth. No insight as to the bite though.

Petting a rattlesnake??? That's pretty obvious isn't it? One does not PET a rattlesnake (whatever cosmic symbol applies) without the likelihood of being bitten. When you were bitten it was on your right thigh...this would seem to indicate you had "time" on your side, for had it been on your left thigh the venom would have more quickly traveled to your heart. The fact that you went to your parents and they ignored you would SEEM to indicate that whatever the snake represented, that which you were petting, they did not have the antidote. Basically, this seems to me almost a life-lesson. When you play with dangerous creatures, they react according to their nature...as I'm sure your parents likely warned you against such actions, when you went to them for assistance, they ignored you. Obviously, this is just an interpretation and in the end, what your dream means only YOU can say.

To dream of a snake biting you means bad gossip or slander..

The snake can represent the Thanatos or death wish, a desire to tempt fate, it could be a desire for power and courage, the risk taking. parents may also be indicative of authority figures in general, there is also a sense of if I don't take care of myself no one will. i hope this helps, joe
