SO proud of my daughter!

My daughters go to Awana, a Christian club, with some friends of theirs every few weeks. (Basically, every Sunday afternoon that we're not an hour away at another friend's house.)

This Sunday, knowing that it was the last chance they'd probably have to go until Fall, my 10 year old asked me if she could stay home with me instead of going. When I asked her why, she said "To get to the next book, I have to tell the leader that she had "taken Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior...but I haven't, and I don't want to say it if it's not true." I was so incredibly proud of her!

We talked, and next Fall she'll probably start going again, and/or to Sunday school. I want her to get a basic Christian education, for several reasons. She understands that she doesn't have to believe what they're teaching, but I want her to know and understand it. I'm going to find out which Chaplain is in charge of the Awana groups, and see if there's a way for her to continue to progress in Awana without having to compromise her beliefs.

Good on your daughter for standing up for what she personally feels and thinks. Even at a young age our children a capable of making there feelings known, but some do not have the confidence to be able to do so.
Well done to her and may she continue to be able to stand up for herself, and express he inner feeling in a way that benefits her.

It's best for them to make their own choices in their lives. I want my daughter to make her own choice as I will never force her to do something she doesn't want (like religion). I believe in having my girls make their own decisions...but I also want them to be informed decisions. I'm hoping that they all have the opportunity to learn about several religions. Currently, their schools teach "Religious Education", where they cycle through several different religions. (I LOVE British Schools!); ▶ Reply to This

My daughters are taught Christian, Islam, Hindu, Tao, Buddhist, Mormon, Wicca, Druidism, Atheism, Agnosticism, and obscure Pagan traditions.

My parents also had a very similar approach but with a different angle to the mindset. This angle was to teach me why "our" religion was better than all the rest despite logic or conviction. Obviously this backfired on them as I am not the good little Baptist raising the next generation of good little Baptists.; ▶ Reply to This
