I'm thinking about getting some Tattoos done, one of the green man, one of my name is celtic and one of the Goddess. But the thing is I dont know how much pain you go through, so can anyone out there please tell me of your tattoos experiences and how you felt when they were being done.
thanks
I work in a hospital in a critical care unit and I know we have had people that end up organ donors that had tattoos on their body. I helped take one guy that was braindead down to OR and his whole chest was covered in inkwork. When he got to the OR they took his heart, kidneys and lungs. They did not want his "skin" for tissue donation for obvious reasons, but that was the only thing besides his eyes (really bad vision) and his liver (major cirrohsis going on) that they didn't take. I do not know who told you that, but I think that they are slightly full of it.
it depends on your body and how sensitive the spot your getting it and also how heavy the hand of the person your getting it from. I have more than a few and all i have to say is you will be fine. when you feel the pain just think of the fact that there are people like me that got them done in prison with all homemade equipment and needles and also trying to keep it from the guards. i have this badass scorpion on my bicept that is only about six inches by four with alot of good detail and shading. good ink. it took 3, THREE, days to do. you want to talk about pain. day one get the outline. day 2 darken it up a little, day 3 shade all of that swollen shit it. then all your "homeboys" want to come slap it when your not looking. im still gritting my teeth. what ever you have done try to schuedule so you can get it all done in one day. or two at tops if your getting a sleeve.
I have 5 tattos and I wouldent class them as painfull but more of a burny feeling . But mine are on my arms , I have been told there are some places on the body that to get a tatoo is more sensative to pain than others . Good luck with getting your tatoo hope you get it
Alright... the anticipation is worse than the pain.
Ok, that's not ALL true... the anticipation is definatly a lot worse than the initial pain... I was afraid of jerking away and ruining it before getting my tattoos... but the first sensations arn't that bad, I was like "Ok, this is cool, I can totally deal with this! What was I afraid of?"
Until ten minutes later. It's like someone scratching a sunburn... over and over... in the same place... for a half-hour or longer depending on the size and complexity. So, it's not bad at first, but it builds... the bonus is, you get to build your tolerance right along with it and since it's not a sudden pain, you have a chance to get a good foothold on your determination and grit.
But as a pagan/witch, I loved it... I mean, no, the pain wasn't fun, I'm no masochist, but the pain was... USEFUL, if I can say that. It became a very amazing experience. It was a beautiful expression of courage and grit and determination that was soooooo worth the pain! I felt such pride as I lay there experiencing the... well, maybe "pain" is too strong a word but "severe discomfort" fits... I felt honored by my own ability to handle it and blessed to do this thing for the spirits and deities that I honor. The tattoos I have are religious in nature and I used the pain to fuel a meditation... I really recommend this sort of shamanic technique!! If I ever get another tattoo, I'm going to construct a much more directed guided meditation... the one I did during my last one was rather feeflowing... powerful, but I think a more guided exercise would have been a big benefit! Just think about it. Good luck!!

I have a triple goddess tat on my ankle. Honestly I was scared to death that it was going to hurt, but more than anything it felt like someone was continuously scratching my ankle with a long fingernail. I have long nails and often gouge myself on accident, so maybe that is why it didn't hurt very badly for me. Of course I didn't get any colors or shading done (I like the outline and couldn't make up my mind what colors I wanted in it) so I don't know if that hurts more than the outline or not.
p.s. I do not have a high pain tolerance at all. I'm kind of a big baby when it comes to any kind of pain.
