I always wanted a metal detector ,sounds great ,the man will get half shares with the farmer when its worth is known so hes not empty handed they will get thousands of pounds .
Ahhh the old adage, finders keepers, losers weepers. I think the guy should have kept quiet, moved to the US and he would have made a ton of money. Queen is a greedy one!

Julie My lady. Why go all the way over there? when where you live if you dig deep enough. you will never know what you will find. And you dont have to give it to the Goverment.LOL
As things are, the finder and the farmer get a great deal of money and the haul, itself, will end up in the British Museum. Your way would see it in a bank vault and never seeing the light of day or maybe even melted down.
I notice the old "men-in-skirts" inferiority complex is back again. [lol]
well it is good to know that the finder will be compensated some how. I agree it should go to the museums it is a part of history, but because the score was so hige the finder needs to be taken care of.
Allegedly, the biggest hoard yet to be discovered is a Viking hoard on the Isle of Man. Again, allegedly, it is hidden in Peel Castle which is an Ancient Monument and so cannot be searched by the public.
