The demonizing or belitting of the male presence in Paganism and Wiccan

There are many authors and followers who do not believe in following male deities. Yes to each their own I do agree with but, there comes a point in which I must ask why? Why belittle and demonize a God because he is male? I am not pointing a finger at everyone here so do not worry about that. I am only asking a question that has had me stumped for a while yet. I follow both a male on a female deity and I find it to be a balance that is necessary for myself personally.

I want to know what exactly you have gathered from experience of seeing these types leads you to wonder where they get these ideas from?

The common answer is the predominance of patriarchal Abrahamic religions. It gets annoying, this over reaction and vilifying of the penis. While I do not believe in a God that has a gender, I do feel a pull towards the male iconography. I wish I could feel more drawn to the "mother" goddess type images, but I don't and all this mother this and mother that gets rather vexing, especially in public work.

Sadly this is too true. I am also very annoyed with the wrongful vilifying of the penis.

Except that ancient pagan cultures are also patriarchal. Rome considered the phalli good luck and people make shrines to it in japan.

either way...women fought for rights and now they have it. Most people in civilized countries see all people as different but equal. Yes there are pay issues and I hope they get addressed, but I don't know a single subjugated woman. Isn't there a point where you just get over it? Can't wait for the hate to pour in but I will be out this eve. So if you think I am callous or whatever I will deal with it later.

I haven't a clue what you mean. But most women in other countries are still under patriarchy. Africa, Middle east, Asia, Central and South America-- all have "civilized" countries and yet women are still second class. But that does not mean we should mistreat men.

agreed does not mean we should mistreat men.. So what is your point?

You said most "civilized" countries are not patriarchal now. Actually that's not true. Most are still very male dominated. It can even be argued America still is too.

I never said that they don't have patriarchal undertones...but overtones....this I would dispute. Ah, forgive me....by civilized I meant first world countries. Sorry guess I am a snob.

I think you are uninformed BEAT,is all...as JUX said there are subjugated women in MANY places in the world. Have you traveled to som,e of the counties where it is common to still treat womenas a second class citizen? They exist from one end of the Earth to the other..... has nothing to do with just $$$ earned for a job,but basic freedom and liberties we assume all women have unless we know better.

Yes, women in many countries are subjugated. Women in the US had it pretty bad not so long ago. I had nothing to do with either one.
I have been a nurse 5.5 years. I could list 25 incidents of male nurses and male respiratory therapists being unfairly disciplined or terminated on the vague charge of "sexual harassment", often for something that would be "good nursing" if a female did it. I have been given a final warning for sexual harassment because I offered to help a woman carry a heavy box. Things said to me by employers ("Men are not able to feel the kind of compassion you are pretending to have; you are a damned pervert") because I am a male nurse would make you sick.
Being male is becoming vilified in the US, and false claims of sexual harassment are becoming the weapon by which ***unethical*** women in the US are gaining power over men. The way women are treated elsewhere has nothing to do with what is happening here.

I completely agree with this post.

Hear Hear! Thank you for sharing, Alan, instances of this kind of harassment and discrimination need to be brought into the light more often!
