WE were disussing this yesterday.....if it would haven even been possible for a World wide flood to have happened? Would 40 days and 40 nights even have been enough time to cover the highest mountain on Earth, for example? Were there enough materials to build a boat that size? HOW did all those animals get there?? And other thoughts.....NOT only Christians, but other cultures talk about ther flood......THOUGHTS? real or a parrable? example? What?

Permalink Reply by Pat Miller on February 23, 2012 at 9:58pm Olive trees are really really tough. That olive tree really does present a problem with the mountains all being totally covered. And a year is not really long enough to grown a tree, but it was just a leaf and maybe it didn't take long to get one started. Need to look into how to grow olives. Really!

Tough enough to withstand tons of water pressure and immersion in a mix of salt water and fresh water for a year?
Next to no plants grow in salt water. It kills them stone dead. The trees would probably have been crushed as well by the force of the immense water pressure.
Now, I agree many seeds are tough and can withstand quite a lot, but everything would be buried under a layer of muck and mud and even if a seed took root, it would have to wait for the ground to dry. Remember, the story only says it took a year for the waters to recede. It probably took longer for the ground to dry.
The story is a myth.
Permalink Reply by Pat Miller on February 24, 2012 at 8:24pm Of course it's a myth, but every myth has its beginning in something factual.

OK, then we're not disagreeing here. 'Something factual' was a localized flood. Nothing world-wide, just a myth that grew out of a bad flood that everyone around the world experiences and that everyone around the world exaggerated and turned into a story.

I can't read every book written, nor attend every class ever held, or visit every archeological site in the world. Sometimes the pot must be stirred to get to the bottom of things.
Permalink Reply by Celticlass...FAERIE QUEEN on February 23, 2012 at 10:09pm ONE would think........WE took a tour of some olive groves in Tuscany,Italy, very interesting the tale of the olive trees..i have some info somewhere on that,too....
Permalink Reply by Pat Miller on February 25, 2012 at 12:31pm Tell us about growing olives? Especially the trees.
Permalink Reply by Pat Miller on February 25, 2012 at 12:57pm I've spent some time supposedly discussing the flood possibility and some try to speak for those other than themselves. Can't, won't, shouldn't and such statements do not fit in a discussion in any way other than opinion. Many people need to have some debating training and there would be more information exchanged more smoothly.
Aurelia: Texoma is a salty freshwater lake...Figure that out for yourself, but I live near there...do you?

Yes. My family used to vacation every summer there as kids and me and my dad went fishing there.
Look it up, Pat.

Yes, freshwater fishing. When we were kids, my family went there every summer for vacation.

It's easy to be sure when you know. If you have anything that says otherwise, please post a link. I will be happy to read it.
OK, since you didn't address my facts about the lake, please explain to me then, how a lake - made from two fresh-water rivers - turns into salty water? You seem to think I'm wrong. OK, prove me wrong. Give me a link.
