The New Look and the Changes

OMG! A 2 hour job took 13 hours...ugh *sorry* I had some major conflicts with scripts and had to mess with code all day (night?...lol)

OK so onto what's different beside the obvious look of the site (I hope you like the slimmer look better :)

  • Android App (top right hand column it has the scannable QR code or it can be downloaded). When you go to download it - it will say it's not a Google Play App but it's safe to download (it's on my phone and tested). It will be in Google Play this week I just haven't had time to sign up and pay the fee yet but I will this week :) As soon as I can I'll be adding an Iphone App but right now the fees are rather high and I just can't afford to do both.
  • You Might Like: I have added a service to the site that will match content with the forum and blog postings (it shows on the bottom of the forums/blogs area screenshot below). The service has not yet scanned the site's content (because it's been offline all day) so, the results are not yet accurate but when it does it will show related forums and blogs, which can be helpful if someone is looking for particular subject content.
  • Google Ads on bottom of forums & blogs: I have removed numerous adsense ads from the site and placed one ad which will appear on the bottom of forums & blogs. These are not intrusive (I could have placed them in the top right area where your text wraps around them but I didn't, so don't yell at me because they're not in your way...lol :)
  • Quick Tabs on the front page: If you're wondering where the blogs, videos, latest activity & events section went from the front page, don't worry they're still there. I added what's called jquery tabs (coding friggin nightmare!), when you click on the tabs they open up the content right underneath the tab area. (See screen shots below) - note: It defaults to the groups.

  • Your Sign-In Box - Email Notifications - Friend Requests Etc. that was in the top right corner: All notifications now appear in the top bar of the site, this saves space in the right column.
  • Chat Bar: You can click on the Chat link in the new bottom bar (screenshot below) to access chat at anytime. That link will pop out the chat box. The other chat bar now only shows on your profile page. If you need to sign into chat then go to your profile page and the bottom chat bar is there :)

  • The new bottom bar: I added a new bottom bar to the site, this bar is hand coded and not one of those slow loading bottom bars that are offered all over the internet. There is no external code in this bar - it's straight code built right into the platform code, so it should load quickly and not lag anything down like the external bars that can be installed from other sites. I also installed the hide/show feature on the bar as well if you prefer not to see the bar :)
  • Language Translator: I added an instant language translator in the bottom bar for any non-English speaking visitors or members.
  • News Articles on top of the front page: I have a Scoop it account where I curate my own pages, I added my Ancient Religions & Archaeology News sections for some interesting articles.

 

I will be tweaking the site further this week but nothing that should cause any issues so, no more downtime *I hope*.

If I forgot something I'll add it tomorrow, I'm so pooped out right now I can hardly keep my eyes open :) And once again, I really apologize for this taking almost 13 hours but I ran into many *headdesk* situations today with the code.

well thanks for improving the whole interface and developing a more user friend design.
just a bit problem with the taskbar under the screen: the hide/show button stands in the middle of chat's online list,
if it was aligned on the left side or somewhere else, it should've been better.

By the way the Chat members options is not working either:
before changed when we hovered our mouse over people's name on chat it gave us options: view profile, chat, ignore. now it doesn't show the option though the button to click reveals.

I moved the hide/show button to the left and moved it down so it shouldn't interfere with the profile page chat bar.

Thanks for letting me know about the chat issue, it seems to work from the profile page chat bar but not from the pop out (except for pm's in chat, I was able to double click on someone in pop out chat and the private message worked but you're right the options are not working. I think I may know what the issue is with that, I'll check the code in just a few :)

Fixed the pop out chat option (drop down lists for member options) issue just a minute ago, so it's all working fine now!

Scratch that...ugh I'll track down the issue, for a temporary workaround see my previous response about accessing any options you need via your profile page.

I like all of it, the only small request I would have is to have an option to get rid of the share sidebar, I use my browser with everything zoomed so that I can see the site while recording, etc.

And the Share bar tends to block the view of the chatroom from the bottom, which is primarily how I use it, especially when some of us watch movies together via chat (we're dorks, but it's amusing :P) 

Otherwise great work, if you need assistance on creating random graphics for any reason, I can also assist in this capacity if you're looking to further spruce up the place ;)

I'll move the share bar to the left of the site, that should fix the chat being blocked. I have a wide screen monitor so, I didn't know it was blocking the bottom chat (thank you so much for letting me know about that!)
