To make it easier to share the upcoming changes (member run format and contributors) with everyone including new members: I addeda new paywall feature to make the communication of the info available to all new members.
First, it's completely optional to become a contributor, if you see the paywall upon sign-up or sign-in and you do not want to become a contributor then simply choose $0 and it will not show up again and take you to your page.
The paywall will only appear once, it will not reappear after that, you can choose $0.00, click the continue button and then it will take you to the site and never show again.
The paywall was set to only appear to new members but it appears to be showing to all members when they first log in (Ning is working on this, it may already be resolved but I'm not completely sure as they have not updated me this morning).
I sent in a support ticket the night before last (4/16) to the network upon finding out that the paywall was showing for all members & appears glitchy in numerous ways. I've been going back and forth with the network about that, as well as the fact that it is not placing contributors into the contributor category, it's actually removing contributors who were already in that category (ugh) as well as removing candidates from their candidate category.
I did not do a site-wide notification about this feature originally because it was only supposed to show to new members upon sign-up, not current members, thus it was not going to effect current members, which is why I didn't notify the site. As soon as I found out about it showing to all (night before last), I posted notifications here (blog and forum), I posted about it on the PS Facebook page, my personal FB page and Twitter and also sent a broadcast message.
